How can i play with friends in tModLoader?

i'm trying to play calamity mod with my brother, but i can't run a server with steam, anyone know how to play calamity mod with frineds?

When in main menu, hit multiplayer, then host and play, then choose your character/world. After that, he can join you by going into steam friends, rightclickin on you, and hitting Join Game. Or, you could invite him via message, rightclicking on his name, and hitting Invite to Game/Lobby. AFter that he can hit "accept" on the invite.

you also need to have the exact same mods enabled, as to not break anything as far as my testing goes

You need to sync all your mods down to the version number. If you're running X 1.2.3 and your friend is running X 1.2.2, it's not going to work.

Likewise, if you're running X and Y and your friend is running X, Y and Z, it also won't work.

Once you sync your mods, do Multiplayer and Host and Play.

i did all of that and im still not able to join my friend

if i install a mod today and my friend installs after it updates, will i need to update it or it already auto-updates?

This is how I usually join my friends world when we want to play together but a lot of the time when he invites me the invite doesnt have a green accept button so I cant join. Have a fix for this anyone?
