Problem on Startup: "Disk has been removed" ???
When i try to play this game, the startup screen will appear, i'll click play, the starting load screen appears for a split second then I get this:

"Disk has been removed, please reinsert the disk to play"

The game was purchased and downloaded from Steam, which does not make much sense to me.

Its a generic error message, but it indicates resources cannot be reached - i.e. usually a file missing or corrupt. If you "Verify Integrity of Game Cache" for FUEL via Steam it should fix the problem by downloading whichever file is missing.

Read this support page in case you don't know how to verify a games cache.

My guess would be some sort of problem with Securom. Perhaps reinstalling the game would fix this? Make sure you give it admin rights.
Securom also offers an analysis tool[support.securom.com] for troubleshooting, but I haven't used it myself. You can get the game key from the Fuel page in your Steam game library.
[Edit: Vetron's suggestion is more likely to help and less trouble to do, so please try that first!]

It actually had to do with windows live I believe...

I uninstalled it -> reinstalled it = fail
Uninstalled it -> reinstalled it to the primary drive = success

Problem...windows live with this game in particular doesn't seem to work on another drive. No idea why. (There's windows live games on this drive linked with steam that work..but not Fuel)

Oh, ok. I'm a bit surprised because the Windows live check seems to happen a lot later in teh startup sequence, but I guess the code gets loaded up front.
