maybe the difference you felt is because ahri's lore (post retcon of summoners and institute of war, mainly the vastayan retcon for her, especially the garden of forgetting side story) has changed to make her mostly more of a sad and thoughtful person (still has occasional flirty and dominating tones) compared to her original lol voice lines which is too much sluttiness+overconfidence (the old LoL quote lines doesn't fit with her original theme of mercy and seeking redemption) imo.
either way, i'm glad her new voice lines in ruined king gave ahri's character much more depth and personality variety rather than your typical slutty kumiho/kitsune/succubus lines. she's more charming and elegant now even with the somber/morose atmosphere of her lore.
The lore rework was quite needed too, as Ahri is an actual character now and her story got elevated to perhaps one of the best in current League lore
And yes, the game is definitely worth it if you're into League lore
