Feels very repetitive compared to TAB
Initially really liked this over TAB but after a bunch of missions (i'm realiably doing pure insanity, haven't tried the last difficulty) i feel like this game has exact same answer to every mission. Yes you need to adapt slightly depending how close the waves are but imo the maps being random completely screwed the game.

In TAB almost every map had very unique solution to it, it felt like a puzzle and once you solve it you know what to do for that map, what tech you need to have. Here maps make no difference, yeah you can get unlucky and get a bad map with stone/iron far from you but it still makes not much difference because you probably would clear those areas by the time you need them.

I feel it would be soo much better if the maps were handcrafted, its not like its a rougelike we play when we have a spare hour, once you do the missions i do not see you replaying them...

Also the corpse and sickness mechanic IMO is completely annoying gimmick. Which is why i almost always try to have 0 casualties just to not worry about it.

No, not at all.
TAB campaign is extremely easy to the point of NOT needing any solutions at all, any bruteforce approach works. Spamming nothing but archers works.

TAB is not easy, especially if you think you're going to do it with just archers, or no farms, or whatever. I recently made a thread about how it's mathematically impossible to get enough food without farms or other economic techs. I'm talking about the campaign ofcourse.

TAB feels more convenient at times though. I like the finite resource model of DNO, but having to constantly relocate fish huts and lumber mills is a bit annoying. I think that contributes to the repetitive nature of it.

That being said, I think they're both good games, but TAB feels more interesting and varied.

I think people make a mistake by only always comparing this to TAB. This is not a TAB clone, it's not meant to be a TAB clone. This game has the most in common with some old RTS games like Stronghold and Stronghold Crusader (especially the "extreme" DLC), not with TAB.

As far as I know, these games are not very well known in the US but they were extremely popular in central and eastern Europe, where the devs also come from.

yeah by no means am i trashing this game, but first impressions was significantly better than TAB (probably these devs do not force permadeath on me), but as i played i realised its not that difficult or different map to map. I expected different factions to be very different in term of how you counter their waves but its exactly the same just different skins... or the difference is so negligible that what i did for first missions worked for everything else.

Also Tabs tech tree made insane difference in campaign, i do not believe for a second anyone thinks TAB is easy if you play any reasonable difficulty.

In DNO i often can hold first wave without any extra units built, yes i'll use all the magic but i wont need it later anyway, just going full greed leveling to farms and making so much food i can constantly trade it for gold without starvation.

Im also unsure what you mean limited resources? DNO is not limited resoures... or maybe im missing something? neither is TAB

fair enough, stronghold is actually better comparison still my first instinct was TAB for some reason.

Fisheries run out of fish. Trees get cut down.

Eventually you can have sustainable tech, but that takes a while. Having to constantly set up new lumber mills and fisheries to replace old ones gets annoying

Fair enough it has limited resource to an extent, but i have never reached a point where it was a shortage... never needed infinite resource production though.

Those are tiny issues. Game already has pop ups which warn you and center onto empty fisheries and lumber mills. Trees come in whole forests and fishes congregate in bigger groups. There's even rebindable keyboard shortcuts for construction

No doubt, but it's still an annoyance. Not one which I think detracts from the enjoyment of the game. It is an element that feels more repetitive than TAB.
i think the missions are varied enough. Not a single mission is exactly as any other mission.
but being "greedy" (or just play good) is allways neccesary on harder difficulties.

Undead are a truly unique faction, as they have different ressources
