I hate the prison break level SO MUCH

Why is there four enemy waves that number, like, 400 enemies at once? How in the hell are you supposed to be able to survive that???

I've done this level multiple times, I know the struggle you're talking about. I've found that the last wave is easier the earlier you trigger it

Also you can garrison ranged troops on your town hall. This isn't something I learned until like 100+ hours in. Crossbowmen on your town hall should help

How is the last wave easier the sooner you do it? Don't you need to kill all the enemy camps to stop them from attacking at the same time?

I think the last wave will just have less enemies if you trigger it earlier. I can't remember if everyone joins the last wave if you don't kill them early but given thats true in almost every mission I'd still take them out just to be safe

Yeah, the last wave definitely has less enemies if you trigger it earlier. I just reloaded an earlier save file and was able to beat it.

Trebuchets are very effective for fighting large enemy groups. Set them up at a chokepoints, have walls that are 5+ layers thick, and have 20+ trebuchets repeatedly carpet bombing the area around the walls.

I've written a guide of my findings on GameFAQs if you are still struggling after my first playthrough. I originally played on Easy, but bumped it down to Easiest after failing a certain mission a few times, helped me work out how to play the game more effectively.
