I usually have 3 stages for food

1) berries and fish
- this is the first stage where you need to provide enough every two days if you don't want people to die, only grow your city according to your food throughput.

2) trade every other day for at least 1 full food run
- usually I do this after I get the (we don't have enough food) alert I also make sure my town is less than 400 food requirements

3) tear 2 farms
- this is best done if you place storage next to food groups
- also I found that tear 1 farms produce so much slower than berries mid game that I only use them if I have either horrible spawn, or have to destroy too many bushes for other things.

Lastly make sure you have key good choke points. scouting the whole map works and if you see natural chokes near the edge of the map leave them alone and don't defend. these will be natural tunnels that I use like wave valves, you can also use the slow trap to make un-natural funnels. however I still have yet to perfect this. Even large defense areas can become small ones once you place/see funnel locations. think the best example of this is 'Ron Empire's' video on his nightmare run of loyalty. you can see near the end of the vid that there is a natural choke location happening on his last wave (If memory serves he did not take advantage of this).

Ok so, day 1 get woodcamps and then spend the wood on research and houses. Day 2 get some berries and fishing shacks for food, and keep building houses. Day 3 get a stone mind and a barracks, start training swordsmen and archers in equal numbers til you have 20 of both. Day 4 get a couple more stone mines and maybe some more food and lumber camps, if building is going slow you should get some building houses. Make a monolith when you can. Day 5 build walls and start training more archers til you have 40

Your soldiers and archers should start by securing a forest, then secure some open space for houses. Then secure some stone mines. Then secure chokepoints for walls. You should also try to destroy enemy buildings for crystals. Consider building watch towers to see the nearby area and plan your clearing better

Enemy waves can easily be defeated with the laser beam spell. Just cast the spell and rake it back and forth through the wave, 5 crystals can kill early raids easy, you may need 10-15 crystals for later. You should build walls in their path to slow them down, preferably at chokepoints, and finish off the stragglers with your army. Personally I never build gates as they seem to block your aim a lot, I just leave a single gap in the wall somewhere. For later waves you can either kill them with meteor spell or build 2-3 layers of walls in their path and have trebuchets behind it on attack ground mode covering the front of the wall. Crossbows on the wall or on towers behind the wall can pick off stragglers, and you can send some light cavalry or mounted knights to kill their siege weapons

Getting that army within the first few days will let you secure ground very quickly. The ground you secure you can build lumbercamps, food sources and housing which will speed your growth faster. Get stone/iron as of when you need it, I find that 3-5 stone mines and 2-3 iron mines is usually enough at any time but I can never get enough wood >.>

At Tier 2 townhall I recommend swapping your swordsmen and archers with light cavalry and horse archers as they are faster, tougher, and cannot be knocked over by enemy catapults. You can make catapults for defense but I prefer to just wait for t3 town hall to get trebuchets which are so much better. Crossbows are good for defending walls but not so much for clearing

T3 townhall swap your light cavalry for mounted knights and get some trebuchets. 20-24 trebuchets will annhilate any raid if you place them behind 2-3 layer thick stone wall 2

Consider getting 40+ mounted knights to more quickly clear the map, they can help defeat enemy raids also, or get 40+ horse archers to help with killing boss enemies while dark knights tank them for you

The other way to play a start is to rush tear 2. this works for any map that has a wave 5+ days.

-Day 1 -
You want to get all but 4 population for wood cutting.
place those 4 into a stone mine that is closest to base. bar that place a storage next to it.
Finish the day making houses, should have around 4 made. (houses should be central to one open 3x3 space for a fountain, more on that later)
-Day 2-
Start day by building Builder building
Use new population to make 2 more stone mines (Ideally near starting mine with central storage. 2 storage)
use remaining worker count for food and wood (goal is to get to 8)
finish day by making houses
-Day 3-
should be close to tear 2 TH. if not there make another stone mine as that should be the resource you still need.
8 woodworkers should net you your required wood for most of the game (just keep them central to wood storage and change work area as needed)

This should net you tear 2 TH by sometime during day 3, if slow start of day 4

After that focus on upgraded barracks, builder (if you found any iron around map), and Iron mines. with extra stone build Tear 2 houses and a fountain central to housing. you should have about 100-150 population by day 3 as well. a decent food production that gives you the required amount. and if you are lucky (like in the Resistance path on the returning boat building mission) resources on the map can get TH even during day 1 if lucky.

-Day 4-
with a Tear 2 barrack you can now make the main early wave facerolling units (these should be able to faceroll most maps 1st and 2nd waves (only map I found unable to faceroll wave 2 is the Resistance but that was on day 20 so you should have plenty of defense or tear 3 by then).
Get at least 10 Spearman
Get at least 10 Healers
get at least 10 Ranged units (choice based on iron)

This group will be done by night of Day 5, and be able to faceroll the first wave, you can also use 5 spearman with well placed walls for support and more ranged units, walls can even be wood, as they are only there to slow down flanking. as you clear you can hold the line. Also if lucky you can just healer and spearman a waves till Catapults arrive. (Usually the slowest of the wave so happens much later in the wave).

With this you have T2 access, after wave you have a decent army for clearing anything without siege (which should be everything close to base) and can now focus on making defenses and enlarging your healer support. if you want to faceroll siege as well, then after first wave get horsieboys and you now have a front row that wont care about siege. Normally I like to have Heavy knights now when I go T3 as they out move healers and I can pull them back faster then any T3 foot unit. Also knights excel at flanking waves to hit siege if you dot want to use siege for anti siege defense.
