I also have trouble breaking through the prison. I did 2 tries at around 260 pop and couldn't push through with tier 2 units. Second attempt was rushing to tier 3 and using trebuchet to outrange his artillery but that strategy takes to long and i end up dying to the double wave
First few tries I underestimated how hard you had to macro and just tried to beat it as fast as possible, since the previous missions I was able to beat it under 300 pop when the reality is you should turtle and just focus on economy until you have a big tier 3 army and base surrounded by walls
1) make sure you have 4 stone deposits for fast stone for tear 2 upgrade
- this lets you get spear-man before 1st wave, 5 of them with 5 healers should mop up that wave with starting archers.
- this also is everything you need to face-roll the map. look out for bombees as they can kill your front lines if you don't have enough ranged to kill.
- all 4 corners can be the prison and either you will need tear 3 units, or ALOT of tear 2 units to face-roll them.
2) make sure you have 2 iron deposits to eliminate the need to buy iron for tear 3 and units.
- this should free up market requirement early letting you go full econ after light tear 2 units.
3) make sure you have a defend-able tight base. the smaller you make your base or choke points the easier it will be to defend and the less economy you will have to dedicate to it.
- this is easy to just use towers to search a little around your base and if you like the map then load the mission start to re-fresh the map without re-rolling. else just restart to reroll.
- The tighter you make the choke points the less tribies you will need. if you time it right you can have a constant tribie bombard on a small choke, letting you mop the rest with one tower of crossbows and 1 tower of Balis. 4 should be ok, but more will make it even easier.
