There's of course the war between Quality or Quantity, unless you Levee en Masse you're going to need siege equipment to even out the odds, but Trebs aren't always the best option, against the Royal Army and Undead, two Ballista can be more useful than another Treb if you already have enough to stun the enemy's front line, Meanwhile against Peasants trebs are the ultimate weapon since they can kill most of what Peasants will send at you across their entire radius
If you're feeling that the regular army is impotent, that just means you aren't scaling enough since Crossbows combined with your choice between Spears and Axes numbering something like 250-300 men in total can dunk on many waves I had to deal with by themselves without needing walls or siege equipment
Having said that I agree that we could do with a 0.5x speed option, that would make the game more fluid without the need to constantly pause so much.
Also the units AI is really bad, melee units get stuck behind each other way too often.
They need to let the AI search for a little longer walking path around them.
I don't mind the horde enemies being dump but your own units should at least be a little smarter.
Ozzy took me around 20 tries until I watched a couple of videos and I finally had some luck with restarting with a perfect map layout.
The mission with the Mammoth circling around the main base also took me around 5 tries before I understood that cleaning the map of all those camps really early makes it so much more easy.
Then for the final mission I just set everything sitting on a tower to attack most powerful target and then I set it to FFWD 3x... and I won on the first try.
I think the easiest difficulty need to be A LOT easier. It needs to be a an actual walk in the park. After I couldn't defeat ozzy I gave up for a couple of weeks and decided not to touch the game anymore.
This defeats the purpose of "a walk in the park" setting...
Other than that. I think this is a pretty great game. And with some tweaks it could be an amazing game.
The first mission that gave me pause (so far) is kill Ozzy. This is my first playthrough and I juat don't feel anything does much damage so I've just been relaxing trying clewring the map (taking far far too long) thinking how I'm going to do a boss fight when the big generals kill my best troops in two hits!
