Controller issues

[Grandma's Regrets]

This is not exclusive to Hotwheels but seems to be for steam games. Problem i have is my car automatically decelerates even if im not holding down the left trigger and slows down my car tremendously when im accelerating. I tested this out on another racing game in my steam library and its the same issue. Outside steam, i tested Forza Horizon 3 and it works fine.

This issue started a day back. I removed all checkboxes in the steam controller preferences and it was fixed for some time but it always came back. The gamepad is use is the Battlefield 4 PS3 controller. I had absolutely no problems with this controller until day before. I have even tried deleting the controller profiles in the steam folder and NADA. Nothing works.

I have tried using my PS4 controller to make sure nothing is wrong with my current controller and im facing the same issue. I dont have an XBOX controller on hand to test if its something wrong with steam setting up generic/PS4 controllers. Like i said, it gets fixed for some time, yesterday night it was working perfectly and i was convinced issue was fixed after tampering with steam controller settings.

At this point im pretty sure steam is doing something to mess up my controller. I know this is not the best place to put this, but if any of you have any advice id really appreciate it.

Have you uninstalled the controller's driver in device manager? Things like this can happen with faulty drivers.
Do it exactly like this:
1. unplug/disconnect controller
2. go to device manager and look for the controller's driver
3. uninstall the driver
4. restart your computer
5. wait until it has completely booted
6. plug in your controller and let windows install the driver automatically

Well i pulled out my old Xbox 360 controller (broken analog sticks) but it seems to work perfectly fine. This is because its originally compatible with windows and is recognised as an official controller. No controller config from steam is being used.

When i plug my other controller the generic gamepad profile is loaded. So now im sure Steam is doing something.

I'll be trying out your instructions. Thank you for taking your time to answer. Ill post if it works.

Did not work. Ive reinstalled steam as well. Seems like buying an Xbox controller is my only option at this point.

Too bad that it didn't help.
If it is a bug withing Steam maybe other players encountered the same bug. It could help to ask around in the general Steam discussions:

Steam definitely has PS controller support, but with all the updates lately they might have broken something.
