You'll get better cars, a better knowledge of the tracks and a better feel for the handling eventually.
It's an arcade kart racer but the driving mechanics are more subtle than you might think at 1st.
There IS a learning curve to the driving !
I started playing on Hard and I got my ass whooped at first so I switched to Normal but I still felt Hard was more satisfying. Not every race is necessarily meant to be won 1st try. Hard is a challenge but it is very satisfying when you pull it off !
Good luck and enjoy the game !
I've had a blast since Day One !
im using the gucci car it gave me because its almost the best at everything and even then doesn't feel like it
drifting feels meh the tracks feel meh as you fly off them or hit corners its just ending up a far more frustrating and un-enjoyable experience rip christmas gift
the game is hard, just GIT GUD :D the ai is amazing because it offers a challenge without having rubberbanding, which i always hated. the AI on normal doesn't cheat at all from my experience. on hard it has more boost than the player.
you can get good enough to easy win against hard ai, like i am and many others.. its impossible to lose on hard ai for me UNLESS i make 1-2 big mistakes but thats how the game is made.. just learn and master the game and don't make mistakes and you'll have an easy time. eventually you'll be able to race all tracks without making any mistakes at all with perfect drifting around corners and perfect usage of your boosts, it just takes time to get good enough. i'm still making mistakes regularly, but despite that as mentioned i can easy win against hard AI on all dev made tracks, i've even been thinking about switching to expert difficulty because the ai mostly isn't a challenge at all and i lead by gaps of 10+ sec in some races. there are tracks where the ai is much better on and hard ai will still give me a good challenge (as in i lead by 1-2 sec only) but there are also alot of tracks where i canÄt even see the ai anymore.
in the beginning i was exactly as you, i couldn't win even against normal ai and on hard i barely made it to place 8/12 so all there is to say is.. GIT GUD :D if i could make it and had insane amounts of fun whilst playing this game so far (and i'm nearly 40y old so far from having the best reflexes etc) you should be able too aswell :)
edit: some tips i can give you are.. learn and master correct drifting, ideally (but thats really hard depending on the corner) without touching walls at all. you need to get a feel for it. always get into the corner-drift much earlier than you think, especially depending on the strenght of the corner.
start with boosting when you come out of corners, later you can boost through the entire corner by drifting and boosting together, thats what works best if you get the handling down well enough.. also use boost charge cars and not boost bar, the boost bar is just too inferior. also don't use some of those troll cars like snoopy, barbie camper van etc. use cars like superman (one of the best ingame) kitt from knight rider, the gucci cadilac is great too for the beginning etc.
additionally learn all track obstacles and modules and the tricks to aviod them. like the spider that shoots webs. theres a trick to always be able to aviod it, the moment the spider shoots the web you need to change direction.. bit hard to explain but when you drive towards it you'll get a feel for when the spider shoots the web. the moment before it does change direction a little, even a nudge is enough and the spider will shoot the web not directly ontop of you
Agreed. Although rubberbanding does exist in A.I. (just replay a race and watch what the A.I. does when you drive off track, it slows down and almost waits for you) it is possible to get better.
HWU offers a great challenge. I am no expert but after 400+ hours I am finally racing all tracks on the Extreme setting (it just requires making zero errors and cutting a few corners on certain maps). But when I first started I adjusted the difficulty setting per track as needed.
The best bit of advice I can give is try as many vehicles as you can. When you find one that performs and handles best with your style of racing stick with it for 90% of the tracks. Have fun and don't take yourself or the game too seriously. After all, you are racing toy cars.
It has been noted that not all of the stats are an honest reflection of a vehicle's abilities. It's best to test drive what you have on the same track and assess for yourself.
Best of luck on the roads ahead, my friend.
