Hot Wheels Unleashed is improperly listed in Steam Store as having full controller support.
Hot Wheels unleashed does support xbox controllers but fails to support wheels; as a result, it should be listed as having only partial controller support. And, I firmly believe this game would have been a lot better with wheel support.

So you could say that for every other game.

Full controller support usually means multiple usb support and force feedback for more than just xbox controllers. Games like rFactor2, AMS 2, Dirt Rally 2, Race Room Racing Experience, Forza Horizon 4, AC, ACC, etc.... have legitimate full controller support. Hot wheels unleashed, on the other hand, is incorrectly advertised.

No that is false.
Full controller support means:
"Titles marked with "Full Controller Support" indicate that they can be downloaded, launched and played using only a controller. These titles do not require a mouse or keyboard on hand for any configuration or in-game setup."

Partial controller support means:
"Titles marked with "Partial Controller Support" indicate that mouse and keyboard may be required from time to time. A controller may be used while in game, however installation, configuration and overall user interface may only be optimized for mouse and keyboard."

Fair enough. Then I would say the definition of Full Controller support as Steam uses it is highly misleading.

I should clarify. Using Ful controller support should probably match consumer's expectations when used as a marketing term (such as on Steam Store). I personally think the Steam definition of full controller support is inconsistent with normal consumer expectations especially involving racing games. Even so, your point is well taken.

Yes, Steam and the video game industry as a whole should be better at communicating this kind of stuff in general.

Why on Earth would you use a wheel for this game? Keep in mind, I ask as someone who has a wheel that I use for driving sims like Assetto Corsa and the like.

I'll put it this way. I am currently using xbox360ce so that I can crudely use the wheel for steering and the pedals for throttle and braking and the game is substantially more fun for me. Moreover, with proper wheel support and force feedback, Hot Wheels Unleashed would have been a much better title. I have nothing against xbox controllers. But, wheels have been out on the pc for racing titles for the better part of 20 years now. And, I have yet to see a real car steered with one's left thumb operating a thumbstick.

The thing is this game needs you to barrel roll your car in midair on some tracks (right thumb stick).
There are also some jumps where it can help to pull up the nose of your car in mid air (also right thumb stick).
That is impossible with a wheel.

Completely agree. But, I am more than willing to give up on most of the flying car aspects and the many shortcuts to play the game with a wheel.

I don't agree. Most know what it refers to which doesn't include oddball controllers.

Thrustmaster, Logitech, Fanatec, Accuforce, Simucube, etc.... are far from oddball controllers. ... especially in "racing" games.
Full Controller Support
Games with Full Controller Support will work without a mouse and keyboard on hand, from installation to play and beyond.

Partial Controller Support
Games with Partial Controller Support may require a keyboard and mouse from time to time, during installation or for limited interactions.

So, full controller support doesn't mean if supports all controllers. It means of the popular controllers it supports, no mouse or KB is needed in the menu's or game play.

So does Forza only get "full controller support" if I can play it with a HOTAS?

Does Battlefield only get "full controller support" if I can play it with a DK Bongo?

You do realize that PC games that don't use the mouse or keyboard for menu input feel like they are just low budget console ports...right? Moreover, using Steam's outmoded definitions listed above, isn't it ironic that partial controller support on a PC is actually better than full controller support on a PC. If that doesn't seem wonky to you, than you are beyond my help. The long and the short of it is: Steam's outdated definitions are contrary to PC consumer expectations.
