Car Speed Test
EDIT:

I made a guide! I'll be using this from now on:

https://steamcommunity.com/sharedfiles/filedetails/?id=2661144374

This post is gonna have a lot of numbers. Will this be useful to anyone? I dunno. Probably not. But hey, here's a thing I did.

I'm an analytical nerd who likes to perform dumb tests in just about anything I do, so I decided to do a little speed test between all the cars in this game. I created a long drag strip track. Original, right?

Anyway, I didn't want to add this to the massive list of drag strips online so I tried to avoid sharing it, but I discovered I can't play my own track in Time Trial without sharing it and finding it in the random list of community tracks. So the only way to really safely perform this test was in split-screen.

As such, each test was performed as P1, which starts in second place. I used no boost, no boost starts, nothing. I simply waited after the countdown and then pressed the gas. The timer doesn't start until after crossing the start line.

This is just a raw speed test to see how quickly each vehicle can go down a straight road. All upgradable cars are operating at Legendary level.

Most of the bigger/bulkier vehicles have an annoying thing where the vehicle will veer off in a random direction upon accelerating, but I tried to keep them as straight as I possibly could. That said, your tests with these vehicles may vary, so don't take this list as absolute gospel.

This is also not meant to be a tier list of any kind. Some of the faster cars have things holding them back, such as tilting easily, having horrible boost capabilities, or terrible steering. Skill also definitely comes into play when in multiplayer, so just because you have the faster car (or more boost, for that matter), it doesn't mean you're gonna automatically win.

The format will be the following...

00. Car Name [Speed Stat/Acceleration Stat] - Time (Steering Used)

RESULTS

Fastest is RD-02 by a longshot.
Slowest is Ramblin' Wrecker.

I also found it interesting how some allegedly faster cars had slower times. Hot Wheels High, despite supposedly being the slowest vehicle of the bunch, still managed to beat out a few cars.

So yeah. There's my random pointless analysis that you're free to look through. Again, don't take this as gospel. These are just the results I personally got.

EDIT:

New first patch list (including boost times) here!

Sandivore is second fastest vehicle? Interesting.

Yeah, that... was definitely surprising, to be sure. Really makes me wonder if a lot of the stats being shown on the car select are BS.

The Common version of Sandivore is the best Common car in the game! Great vehicle despite its misleading stats.
In general it's best not to judge vehicles based on their stats. For example, a 2/6 speed stat car can have insanely fast boost speed. Also there's lots of hidden stats, such as acceleration during boosts (insanely important), deceleration (how fast car loses speed after you stop boosting), etc.

For sure. I'm generally a Dragon Blaster STH user, mainly since it's a pretty fast and easily controllable vehicle with high boost capability, and its speed definitely seems to have been backed up by this test. Not the best by any means, but good.

I knew RD-02 was fast but I didn't think it was that fast. I've seen you post about RD-02 in another thread, and while I do feel that car is more of a "noob-killer" than a genuinely good car, I do still think its speed could use at least a small nerf. That thing was somewhat close to getting into the 15 second mark while no other car even made it to 17! Lmao.

Sandivore definitely surprised me and I may experiment with that vehicle a bit more. Another vehicle that kind of surprised me was Mountain Mauler. It doesn't really show in this test, but that vehicle has a ridiculous amount of torque upon accelerating. It appears to reach its top speed so quickly that I honestly find its acceleration just being a 4 to be absolute BS.

Then there's Duck N' Roll, which is just... "6 speed and 6 acceleration" my ass. Hahaha.

Sorry for double post, but I just tested out Sandivore a bit more, and yeah, wow. That car is actually kind of monstrous. Despite it being one of the "big" vehicles, it's incredibly stable and isn't prone to tilting and pinballing like a lot of the larger vehicles. Its handling stat being a 2 is also definitely quite misleading.

It feels stiffer to turn, but its stability allows it to pinpoint itself through sharper turns with a lot of ease. Just requires some good braking knowledge. So yeah, definitely in agreement with suqd. Don't pay too much attention to the stats. Experiment with vehicles and try to get out of your comfort zone. With enough skill, you might be surprised by some of these cars.

EDIT: Later I might do another speed test, only this time I'll use boost starts and use as much boost as I can. It'll be kind of difficult with the bar-type boost, I'm sure, but I'd like to get a good gauge on how quickly each vehicle can finish based off a combination of its speed and boost capabilities. Who knows? Maybe RD-02 will get beaten out. We'll see.

Please, continue this line of testing. This is incredible. Honestly seems like the stats in game are just complete misinformation, or they are based off of something other than what they say they are based on. Also, how long was the drag strip you created?

Thank you! From what I'm hearing, the new patch nerfed RD-02 a bit, so I think I'm gonna retest all the cars' raw speed again, and I'll also record new separate times based off of boost as well. I'll do this after I get some sleep. I am up waaaaay too late right now. Lmao.

As for the track length, it's of course in the Track Room, and it reached 150/3000.

I hope not.

It's ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ annoying, that constant attitude of nerfing things because babies are crying........ we are reaching again the same level of EA ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥, aka, nerf this monday, nerf that tuesday, nerf this again and again and again and its a never ending situation because there will be always one car to dominate them.

The RD02 was challenging, a lot of troll/cornering track was requesting a lot of skill to compete with more easy to use cars, the only advantage was the straight line, which, against a skilled driver, was barely enough (multi boost in straight line).

So if it's true, then well, let's see all the lobbies filled with jesko night and day, cars that require no skill or whatsoever, race where everyone does the same time because the car doesn't have enough complexity to make the driving difficult.

At least, with the RD02, it was easy to filter the good, the bad and the ugly, if you can't manage the horrendous brake/handling of the car, you would be left behind on any cornering track, making a real challenging car to see the true level of a driver, like was the TVR Cerbera Speed 12 in Project Gotham Racing 2, the Koenigsegg One:1 in Driveclub or the Uberschall Clear View in Burnout Paradise.

Now we are back at "stall" racing, where 2 drivers are stuck at the same distance without being able to reduce the gap because all cars can handle all those corners easily.

When those devs will learn ?! When ?!

Heh. I think it'll be okay as long as they didn't nerf it too hard. I did feel it could use a small nerf since its raw speed just... majorly outclassed every other vehicle by so much, but I do hope it's still the fastest car, at least. If they over-nerfed it, then they just kind of took away what made that car so unique - being that lightning fast vehicle that struggles on corners and requires some raw skill to keep its boost going.

Anyway, I'm in the process of waking up now and I got some errands to run, but once things are settled down, I'll begin testing and see if much has changed, and I'll record boost times as well. :)

Amazing test results! Can't wait to see your next test if they really nerfed RD-02 or not. Keep up the content!

Well, they did over nerfed it, after hours of multiplayer round after the patch, I can tell you that the 24 Ours / Jesko are way better overall than the RD02, from handling and brake and almost the exact same top speed, aka, the RD02 become useless.

I still have 30 hours of RD02 multiplayer experience, so I can still push the car to the limit, but even doing so, I barely keep up with 24 Ours and Jesko user on straight line tracks, on corner tracks, it's just impossible.

And yeah, like you said, we lost some depth in the skill/racing mechanic with that nerf, that car was high risk / high reward, it required to really master the brake and racing line to extract the maximum potential, and by doing that, you were rewarded with a huge speed, it's now all gone......

EDIT: Added the three DLC cars from the October 21st update, (and now the new Bye Focal II vehicle!) which will be in bold. I've only re-tested a couple other cars, and there were hardly any differences, but I'll do a more thorough test later, just in case.

Whew... took a bit, but here we are. So just like before, I played in 2P splitscreen on a drag strip track (Track Room, 150/3000). All tests were performed by P1, starting in second place. The timer does not start until I cross the start line. For raw speed, I waited until the countdown was done, and then I accelerated.

For boost speed, I sat and waited until the vehicle's boost completely filled up, then I accelerated/boosted at the same time. Once the boost ran out, I let the car travel at normal speed to the finish.

Most larger/bulkier vehicles tended to veer off in a random direction upon accelerating, so I had to manually steer the vehicle a bit. Tests with those vehicles may vary a bit more if you try for yourself.

All upgradable cars are operating at Legendary level.

Once again, this is not meant to be a tier list. Faster cars can have downsides. Skill also heavily comes into play. A car with poor boost could still keep boost going via doing mini-drifts, for example.

This time, the format will be the following...

00. Car Name [Speed/Acceleration] {Boost} - Raw Time -> Boost Time (Steering Used)

So yeah, sorry 4Head. RD-02 definitely got one hell of a nerf. The rest of the raw speed times aren't too different. Minor variations here and there, likely just as a result of manual testing.

In terms of raw speed, the fastest car is now Sandivore. Surf 'N Turf, Boom Car, Bump Around STH, and Twin Mill STH are also pretty high up there (under 18.300).

The slowest is still Ramblin' Wrecker, with Tricera-Truck, '32 Ford, Sharkruiser, Tanknator, Hi-Po Hauler, Volkswagen Beach Bomb, and HW Armored truck also dipping into the 19-second mark.

Unsurprisingly, the more boost a car had, the faster it tended to finish (in other news water is wet), but general speed still definitely did affect results.

The fastest in terms of using full boost down a straight road is Power Rocket, with Boom Car, Audi Sport Quattro, Street Wiener, Bump Around STH, Dragon Blaster STH, Fiat 500 STH, Tanknator STH, Duck N' Roll, and BAJA Bone Shaker making it into the 15-second mark.

The slowest boost run was Tomb Up, with RD-02, Tur-Bone Charged, Winning Formula, Bad to the Blade, Sharkruiser, TMNT Party Wagon, Veloci-Racer, Custom Volkswagen, Volkswagen Beach Bomb, Bone Shaker Unleashed, and Shark Bite all dipping into the 17-second mark.

PHEW. I need food. Hope this all comes in handy!

EDIT: Just made a slight edit on Tomb Up's boost. It actually has even less bar-type boost than GT-Scorcher and Bone Shaker Unleashed. Yeesh.

OCTOBER 21st UPDATE: While I haven't tested very many of the other cars yet (there weren't any real differences in what I've tried so far), I did add the latest three cars, which are marked in bold. The Aston Martin 1963 DB5 and Superman seem fairly standard for the most part (with Aston Martin being a bit on the slower side), but M. Bison seems to have taken over as the fastest vehicle! I re-tested M. Bison and then tested Sandivore to make sure this wasn't a fluke. That said, M. Bison's boost is still pretty average considering its speed.

OCTOBER 28th UPDATE: Added in Bye Focal II.

Thank you for your test ! I will need to bookmark this.

And yeah, as I said, it's a very aggressive nerf, the RD02 have nothing to offer now, worst handling, worst braking, average top speed and worst boost compared to all the other "high" tier cars, like 24 Ours, Jesko, Power Rocket etc.... all of them have better stats in all sections (I mean +0.100 in top speed is nothing in practical situation).

No problem! And yeaaaaah, speaking as someone who hoped for a bit of a nerf, I'm not a big fan of just how hard RD-02 got nerfed. It's still a pretty fast car, but it pretty much completely lost its uniqueness and feels a lot more middle-of-the-road now.

There's still some real standout cars, at least. But nothing quite like how RD-02 was. Hoping something fills its role in the future, just on a slightly nerfed scale. A lightning-fast car with poor handling and one notch boost. I really liked the idea behind that.

One thing I kind of hope for in the future is buffs for the Secret-tier cars. They're... not very good. Lmao. Duck N' Roll reached the 15-second boost mark thanks to just having so much boost, but otherwise, the Secret cars' stats really do seem to be complete and utter BS. Especially the 442. It still makes my jaw drop that its raw speed nearly dipped into the 19-second mark despite allegedly having 6 speed and 5 acceleration.
