Split screen?

How does split screen work on pc?
Can one use keyboard and mouse while the other uses a controller?
I'm thinking about buying this.

Simple answer, yes and the split screen comes with bots too.

However, I haven't played with a keyboard so I can't say if it's gonna be better or worse than the controller.

I actually tried keyboard for the hell of it and it works surprisingly good.

Yes, you can use the Keyboard for Split Screen and any other features. However the Keyboard is basically a mapped down controller. Even for the Editors (Trackbuilder and CarCustomization) you can't use the Mouse you'll have to use WSAD plus IKJL and other buttons like Space and Shift etc.

I want to configure player one with controller and player two with keyboard, but I can't.
When I select Split Screen with the controller the game asks me to press button "A" for player 2... but none of the keys of the keyboard works, only when I press "A" with controller lets me proceed, but then doesn't work, it tells me that I lost controller for player 1, because I only have one controller.
