Destiny of the World now has a native Linux version on Steam.

The Linux version is a native build, not a Proton wrapper, and includes the same features and scenarios as the Windows version.

A few notes for Linux players:

• SteamOS and Ubuntu 20.04+ are the primary supported targets.

• Steam Deck compatibility has not yet been verified. I haven’t been able to test on Deck hardware yet, but I plan to share an update once I can.

• If you run into Linux-specific issues such as crashes, audio problems, or display bugs, please post them in the discussion forum. If possible, include your distro and GPU driver version so I can investigate more effectively.

Other Release Notes

• This version uses a new Save Game Format. The old format used a deprecated .Net feature.  If you have a PBEM game in progress, you should finish it prior to updating to this game version.  All PBEM players must use the same game version.

• Reduced hit chance for submarine-to-submarine torpedo hits to reflect historical numbers

1. Right-click Destiny of the World in your Steam Library.

2. Select Properties → Betas.

3. Choose [c]dotwtest[/c].

4. Steam will download the native Linux beta build.

If you do not see [c]dotwtest[/c], restart Steam and check again.

If you have any Play-by-Email games in progress, finish them before switching branches. Mixing the stable build and the [c]dotwtest[/c] beta build will cause save-game compatibility issues.

For cross-platform PBEM between Windows and Linux, both players must be on the [c]dotwtest[/c] beta branch.

1. Right-click Destiny of the World → Properties → Compatibility

2. Uncheck Force the use of a specific Steam Play compatibility tool

3. Uninstall Destiny of the World

4. Restart your computer

5. Follow the steps above under How to Opt In

• This is an early beta, so some rough edges may remain.

• Full gameplay is available, including single-player and PBEM multiplayer.
