Team performs bad halfway in season
I was winning most matches coming top 3 in the league and now they play like ♥♥♥♥. Why? And how do I stop this.

I'm in the same position right now. Players stopped scoring open chances, winning the xG every game, opponents score amazing long shots or my defenders forget to head the ball from the opponents clearances giving them 1on1 with the goalkeeper. Oh and don't forget all the penalties my team gives away. Changing players won't change it nor will the stay on feet instruction change anything.

Knowing FM the problem is probably something in the lines of my winger playing advanced playmaker in central of the field instead of to the right. Or left wingback being on defensive instead of attacking.

Morale is very important, praise players / criticize players base on their performances, also held a team meeting could help.

false, i made my opponent team with the lowest moral possible, and they play like Real Madrid.

They get into the box and just scuff every shot they have even with decent stats. It has happened near enough every season and I am in the year 2027, they just play like idiots. Even though they are VERY familiar with the formation and tactics and win almost every game at the start of the season they just play like ♥♥♥♥ halfway through.

At points throughout the season the AI will analyse the other teams in the league and their comparative strength. So for instance, if your team starts the season and is predicted to say, finish 15th, most of the stronger teams in the league will likely attack you home and away.

This often means games are quite open with plentiful opportunities to play on the break or 'fight fire with fire' in the sense of attacking.

Even some of the weaker sides are more likely to attack, or play a balanced system. Very few will decide to shut up shop against you.

If however, after half the season you're in say the top 3, these AI teams will look at you and reassess. Rather than just attack, when playing away they're much more likely to play defensive or counter attacking tactics. Perhaps even at home they'll look to play with a more balanced style, or if they're doing badly, play very defensively.

This means games are tighter affairs and now you're much more at risk of being caught on the break if you're playing an attacking style. We find most user players do tend to play quite attacking, so it's definitely a risk. Especially from set pieces where even when players try to close down games, they don't change their set piece instructions and push loads of players forward - particularly dangerous if the AI is now leaving a lot more players up and around the halfway line ready for the break.

So just because a tactic works for a period of games, doesn't always mean it'll work against every approach. Have a more conservative, patient and balanced approach available for those types of games. Sometimes you'll need to work much harder to break teams down.

But as soon as I change my tactic they aren't familiar with it and are probably more worse off now then they was before.

Game is getting worse in some ways and mildly improving in other areas, but the things that matter, the match engine, the AI, the ability to react tactically to events in an effective way are all utterly broken.

It's pure RNG.

Stopped buying after 2015, now playing FM 2014 and almost enjoying it.
