If you're tapping to slow, you'll die. If you don't start tapping quickly enough after the prompt appears, you'll die. If you don't kill that zombie immediately after escaping it, you'll die. After that one, they're much easier to kill.
Several other different zombies are "introduced" to you during the game. The very first ones are all fairly hard to kill. Once you've killed the first one, they all become easier.
I think it has more to do with your skilling up than the zombies getting easier. As you get better and locate a few Nero injectors they get easier to kill.
That first pop out zombie in the tunnel is a bit OP but only because the game has conditioned you to hit a button and hold it to do most actions. You hold E down to interact with people or to loot items. You hold space down to skip most of the cut scenes. You hold Enter down to save or quit game.
Suddenly, in your first real in-game challenge, they pop a manic zombie on top of you and expect you to notice that you don't just hold down E but have to repeatedly spam push it...all while you're freaking out that you can't fight or shoot this monster. The added stress is a distraction from the words on the screen.
Early in the game, i needed to crawl under a tree. And walked between some upside down hanging zombies. I got bitten and died. So next time, i shot them all in the head in advanced. And i could crawl through it with ease.
You can't use what you advise here. As soon as you get to the door, a zombie jumps out and knocks your gun out and starts biting you. It's like a video. Trying to shoot the door won't help either.
That's a separate and different problem. You should be able to save where you are in the game, and start from that save.
Firstly, you can only save when you are near your bike, or a bed you can use. All bunkers, NERO MMUs, the camps (Tuckers, Copelands and the others) and Deacon and Boozers watch tower camp have beds you can use. You can't 'Save' away from any of these.
If you've been doing that, but still can't find your 'Save', there's a problem with your copy of the game. The best Troubleshooter Guide I've seen is this one.

The first fix I'd try if I were you, is 'Verify Game Files'.
If that doesn't fix it, work your way through from there, with a broken game file in mind. So resolution or gpu adjustments, etc, are probably not what you are looking for.
Personally, I don't usually do a 'Game Save'. I do a 'Quicksave' at the bike, then quit the game. When I restart it, I just hit 'Continue' from the top of the start-up menu. That has worked every time, so far. (Touch wood I haven't jinxed it now :D )
