This is clearly Sony testing the water to judge how much interest still exists for this franchise, and the only and last chance we, Days Gone fans, have to show Sony that there are still many players who want more of this game.

If people keep trashing Sony and crying about a remaster as has been the case since the trailer dropped, we will get nothing. But if the hype and sales are high enough and even bring in new players Sony might consider making a sequel once again (the new assets will be already done).

As long as we get more of this and less of Spider-Man Woke games, I'll do it. I knew Spider-Man 2 was going to be a flop on pc because I played it on launch on the ps5 and it had so many issues that are still not fixed. Crashing my ps5 several times, weird visual artifacts, ghosting, etc

Game sold very well.
Last number was more than 7 million in 2022.
I think it is around 8 or even 9 million now.
