When does the game pick up?
I see this game is really highly regarded. I'm probably 5 hours in and It's just not hooking me in. I've had the game for probably 6 months too. I'll hop on for 30 minutes and get bored and hop off. I got GoT this week and I am already 8 hours in. Cyberpunk & BG3 hooked me right away as well. Does this game pick up at a certain point?

It's probably hard to get hooked in 30 min increments, to be honest. It's a slow-burn game that you will find yourself hooked into as it goes along. I know I bounced off it a time or two before I got into it. But the bike riding is my favourite traversal system in all of video gaming. Also, don't expect Deke to turn into a super soldier/unstoppable killing machine.

Anyway, this is one of my favourite games of all time, and I'm not normally into zombies.

I guess it's subjective. If it's not your thing , then so be it. I was hooked right from the start. The main menu, the music, everything about this game (TO ME) feels right. They did a great job. I love it. The plot (so far) is pretty good. Much better than this other game I'm about to mention.

However, I DO feel the same way you do about "DYING LIGHT", which I'm struggling to finish, because I get bored of it after playing 20 to 30 minute increments. Not sure what it is that makes THIS game stand out over that one, but it does. The characters are much more real to me, and fleshed out. I can't remember a single character in "DL" and don't really care about any of them. The whole game feels superficial at best. The only cool part of it is the whole "parkour" aspect.... altough, I think Mirror's Edge did it better, and is a much better game overall. I still have it installed.... and will force myself to finish it eventually... but not today! LOL

I find playing any open-world game in brief increments is a recipe for disappointment a lot of the time. You really have to start immersing yourself in the realities of the game and making plans as to what to do next and figuring out how to do it and then suddenly you find 6 hours have passed and you cannot wait to play again

I like the pacing. It's believable in some sense.

To your question, the game DOES pick up, but it's a pretty uneven experience. There were times in my play through when I thought the game was an A and I was going to 100% it, and then there were other times when I thought it was a C and I just wanted to move on. In the end I think it's worth playing and I rate it a solid B, which is still really good all things considered, but it's no masterpiece and I understand arguments both for and against.

10 - 15 hours. It always sucks when a game takes that long but The Last of Us was the same for me. I was bored out of my mind for at least 10 hours after the initial epic intro before it got good.

It's just slow is all. Sometimes I'm in the mood to put up with the slowness and other times I'm not.
