When Deak is arriving at the site for this mission, they have a short radio conversation. She explains why that Newt Colony is allowed to remain where it is and why she wants that particular newt.
when you go back to the lab to find the DNA sequencer with Sarah you find out more about the secret research being done there, that newt was involved in it.
When you go back to the lab' with Sarah, you do find out more. But Sarah had nothing to do with the secret research, so wouldn't know if that newt was involved or not.
Sarah pieced together what happened, after the event, on her own, without access to research notes from the secret lab. Their return to her lab' is their first time there after the 'apocalypse'. It's a 'return' because they met there quite frequently before the apocalypse. They only go to that lab once. They go to the college lab for a centrifuge earlier.
i didn't say she was involved in it, i said you find out more about the secret research and that the newt was involved.
