Me... I like to be in absolute control of my character. It's not really that hard to be honest.
Thanks for the info m8!

Where? As far as I can tell, the only option to toggle crouch is in the keyboard/mouse control settings. I think people are talking about the controller. There's only the ability to now hold the crouch and run button, and no option the Controller settings to change it to toggle.
I am using a Dualsense controller via USB to get all the features. On the main menu go to options, then use R1/ RB to scroll to controller, then scroll down to customize controls, then square unbinds controls and you can set them to your preference toggle/ hold. Make sure to use a controller in the menus, if you are using mouse and keyboard it will lock you out of using customize controls even if your controller is connected.
I adjusted it in Steam Input. The gear icon let me access the settings for those buttons, including the ability to change it to toggle.
OK cool, yeah it is kind of convoluted. I wonder why they changed those to be the default controls because it would be awful to play the game like that.
Remember that there is a new studio touching the game's code so 99% sure the ones who made this are not the original devs who did the port and all the previous updates until this one. See the new intro video with the logo of that studio. It's almost like they are porting the game to PC from zero, all previously learned is not valid or has gone and that includes default control settings. BTW, this kind of default decisions are usual in firstly ported games from devs, not sure why if it's because lack of KB+mouse experience or because in general holding a button is more usual in console controllers.
What'd they do? Give this game to a bunch of interns to test out on? If that's the case, then they should DEFINITELY include a beta branch of the previous version until these new "interns" learn how the freaking game works.
Why should long-time gamers now be their "beta testers" until they get it right? They couldn't even update the game without breaking the sound and controls. God knows how well their skills are in actually patching the problems.
