Game stuttering since Windows update 24H2
Hi, the game was working perfectly at 4k 60fps until installing the latest Windows 24H2 update. Since updating I was getting a lot of stutters, especially in cutscenes, it was stuttering about once every second. I tried changing a few settings but nothing seemed to solve this. I rolled back Windows to the earlier version and paused windows update and it's working fine again now. Is anyone having the same problem? I have an i5 8600k (yes I know this needs upgrading :) ) and a 4070 TI

Was there an Nvidia update immediately after you updated Windows?
Because there might be a need to update your GPU driver to suit the newer Windows.
Alternatively, quite frequently an Nvidia update will cause stuttering, and several other problems, in this game, presumably other games too. There is usually another update to fix these problems a few days later.

Hi, thanks for the reply and the guide for fixing problems. Yeah there was an Nvidia driver (version 566.36), which I installed after the windows update but did not make any difference. Yeah hopefully there will be another update which fixes it as i've also read 24H2 has caused problems in other games. I've paused windows updates for 4 weeks so hopefully something comes out within that time.

OK.
I don't remember having any issues with the Windows update, but I'm on an AMD 7900XT, not Nvidia. So it might be that which saved me.

Yeah it's probably something to do with the Nvidia drivers. There's so many different things it could be, it could take hours to find the problem. Easiest option is to just disable updates for now so I can continue the game with no issues. 35 hours in so far and really enjoying it

I just noticed, you say you've got 24H2.
That is a Beta, not a standard update. Most of us recently got the 23H2 update.
24H2 is for testers, developers and the like, to test it for bugs etc.
If you've got it because you're registered as a developer or tester, then this is the kind of thing MS want information about. If you've got it because you thought it would be 'cool' to get Beta releases before everyone else, this is why you're having problems.

Nah, they've been releasing it on the stable channel for a while now. The thing is that they added some update blockers because of problems with certain software (including games), so a lot of people haven't received it yet.
It's also the only version of Windows 11 available through the official download page. If you're doing a clean install and want the 23H2 version, you must get it from an unofficial ISO repository.

Oh! OK! I'm obviously a bit behind and wrong :steamfacepalm:

I just rechecked, I'm definitely on version 23H2, and no available updates.

Thanks Willrei :) it must be a bug with that update. I'm not a dev or a beta tester, it just showed up as normal in the Windows update section of the settings app so I clicked install

Don't use Windows? ¯\_(ツ)_/¯

It's purely down to the Nvidia driver, this game doesn't like some of the newer ones.

If you go to the settings page in the game, you will see the fps widely varying

The new release of the Nvidia App is causing all sorts of havok, Tom's Hardware reported a 15% loss in performance which is been confirmed by Nvidia itself.

Turn off the "game filters and photo mode" inside the Nvidia app settings. Apparently it's the culprit and it defaults ON when you enable the overlay for the first time.

Gotta restart the game for it to take effect as well.

Your right about the Nvidia driver, i've just installed the latest one again and seen a drop from 79 to 71 fps (4k highest settings). Then, like you say tried turning off 'Game filters and photo mode' and it's jumped from 71 to 85 fps! Thanks for the help with that :) I've had no stuttering though so think that was something to do with 24H2 update

plz don't play NVIDIA app
Uninstalling the NVIDIA app fixed some horrendous frametime issues and gave me an extra 15%+ of performance!
