Working perfectly - but suddenly stuttering?
Has this happened to anyone else recently? I've been running this game fine for weeks - about 40-50 hours in, fps has always been around 60 with medium settings

Started the game yesterday and nearly couldnt move in iron mike's camp, massive lag and stuttering. What happened? I rolled Nvidia driver back from 497.09 in case that was a culprit. Made sure windows is updated, uninstalled and reinstalled the game. I've deleted the %temp% folder and prefetch folder, tried changing cpu priority/affinity and all settings. To no avail - the game worked smoothly before but is now nearly unplayable

I noticed a couple of other posts, wondered if this is new for others where it worked fine before?

I’ve noticed the same thing the last couple of times I was on it, I’m sure this never used to happen to me, it’s okay on foot, fps is perfect but as soon as I get on the bike I get stutter

I’ve got a 2070 super, runs the game around 90fps on ultra for the most part but only when I’m on the bike it stutters / lags, it’s not just the game slowing down anymore either like digital foundry states, it’s like actually freezing now, it never used to do this

Same here, the first 100 hours of the game ran buttery smooth. Now I am playing NG+ and a few hours in the game starts stuttering like crazy.

I have the same problems and have not found any solution.

Did you get the new driver that came out a little over a week ago?

Having a similar issue, tried lowering settings, raising settings, switching from borderless windowed to fullscreen to plain windowed and back, turning off vsync, capping framerate lower WHILE vsync was off, closing background programs, etc, nothing works.

My best guess is that it's a loading related issue, because the longer I play for a session the heavier the stuttering gets.

Yep it's definitely a time played issue isn't it. But before recently, I was playing it almost all day non-stop and didn't encounter any issues. Does it have something to do with save files being bloated? I am currently on NG+ but in my first play through everything was great.

it's a game speed issue which they didn't fix for some reason:

if i find some solution on the web i will post it here

To me it looks like a bug with the game hugely under-utilizing GPU at times.

What I've been seeing is that the FPS drops from ~100 down to 60-70 often, it seems to be largely in camps, or when riding around on the bike. Instead of the normal GPU utilization of 70-90 and running at the full FPS, it randomly plummets down to around 40-50 percent before going back up again. Doesn't really seem to matter if VSYNC is on or off. Right now I have it off and using Freesync though

It's doing this while CPU and GPU temps are around the high 50's and mid 60's and CPU utilization is 30% or less, so it's definitely not temps or bottlenecked in any way.

For reference,
3700x, 16 GB @ 3200 mhz, 6900xt, 3440x1400 res, freesync on, vsync off

I'm probably not noticing the stuttering as much myself only because of freesync, it is still somewhat noticeable though regardless, and even more noticeable with it off. So it would make sense that it's a game bug then if that's the case, and the huge swings in FPS probably causes stuttering to varying degrees for everyone.

Edit: Seems different then the above @SmOke3f47h3r linked? For me the FPS notably lowers/drops before returning to normal, not only the game speed, sounded like in that video that bug was only the game speed.

Locking the FPS to 40-45 in nvidia control panel in Days Gone profile and setting the power management to Maximum performance also in days gone profile of nvidia control panel seems to fix the issue, The game does not likes to run above 30fps but the stuttering is hardly noticeable at 40-45, the real issue occurs when the game is running above 45 fps, the stutters and slow downs get really annoying on bike

Only time I’ve encountered a huge framerate drop is when about a dozen runners spawn all at once but that’s due to a wolf spawn multiplier mod.

For reference, my screen is fixed at 60fps, which is very stable. The difference is that I need to reduce my gpu performance to 80% in order to run normally. Running at full speed will show the need to update the graphics card version and jump out of the game to execute the nvidia screen multiple times.

The difference on the screen is that although the game will jump out of the game at full speed, the screen will be better. After reducing the speed, it will be more stable but the screen looks like a layer of light white screen.
After jumping out of the game at full speed, display a better-looking picture at a steady speed.

After turning on "Afterburner", game performance will drop significantly and reading data will slow down. FPS will also change from stable to unstable. But I can open other screens to chat or do other things.
