DAYS GONE REMASTER?!?!?!
So. there has been recent news (LEAKS) that DAYS GONE is getting a remaster. How does everyone feel about this? Would you buy? Do you think that there's hopes for a sequel if this does well.

Don't make the doorknobs show up in Eagle Vision (or whatever it's called).

Love this game, it's so good and vastly underrated. I'm down for a remaster, so long as it's not just a simple auto upscale to 4K jobbie, 60 FPS mode on PS5 cash grab. If it has care and quality of life additions added and is discounted for existing owners of the game, sure. Why not? :steamhappy:

I want to be able to slide down the ladders.

What would they remaster on PC? Even at 4K the graphics are great. It could do with some fixes and tweaks, QOL improvements but nothing needing a full remaster.

Unless you're talking about on PS which I guess is stuck with the PS4 version of the game.

That remaster is for PS5, and it's only a remaster, not a remake.

So pretty pointless for PC users.
Graphics on PC still look great

Just realised, the game already got a 60 FPS update on PS5 some time ago. So the remaster rumour makes even less sense to me. :awkward:

Still, if nothing else, it might stir up some more interest in Days Gone. Which is never a bad thing.
I also would like to be able to slide down ladders and maybe even climb up them two rungs at a time.
Hell, I'd love if it was just interact with ladder, loading screen, appear at top of ladder.

Doesn't need a remaster what it needs is a final dlc to tie off the story since dg2 won't happen.

Atleast some fricken additional voice lines from Sarah after the game is done so she doesn't just sit on the chair, ignoring deacon... like wtf.

That would be great. At the very least, I would love a graphic novel. If a games not going to happen, then it'd be amazing to have more story to read.
Hoping it does well and gives us a sequel. Makes no sense to not get it, since games that made less $$ seem to have had'em.

It isn't only how much $$ a game makes. That's only one part.
How much did it cost to make is another part.

Days Gone took over 4 years to make. It was supposed to be released in 2018, but wasn't released until 2019 because it wasn't ready on time. That delay made it even more expensive to make. Sony backed the studio to make Days Gone, then had to wait an extra year before their investment started to pay them back, not good financially.
The day 1 release was buggy (all games are these days), it was mostly patched by the end of week 1 (as is usual these days), but reviewers got the unpatched day 1 release, so their reviews said "it's buggy". There were other black marks in the reviews.
It's a bit of a slow burn tbh, until you get to Lost Lake. Reviewers are paid very little for a review, so they won't play it for more than a couple of hours. So they said "it's slow moving". As a result of the reviews, initial sales were slow. Sony had already waited too long for the return on their investment, the slow sales were also a poor return for their money, they needed it quicker. I think there were only 2 million units sold in the first 2 years, that is poor.
The port to PC in 2021 and another sales stream, word of mouth among PC game players, got sales to start moving. I think sales are around 8 million units now, maybe up to 9. That's a decent number, but it's taken 5 years to get there.

These are some of the reasons why Sony rejected the DG2 that was presented to them fairly soon after DG was released.

I think Days Gone is a fantastic game, I love it. I want DG2 as much as any of us. But the only people who will green light it are Sony. The team who made DG has mostly split up. John Garvin, the writer and who had overall control of the game is not a favourite of Sony, or Bend now, will probably not be invited to the team who make DG2 imho, IF we get it. So I doubt it'll have the depth of Days Gone, which is one of the reasons many of us love it. I don't know if a sequel will be as good a game as Days Gone is, even if it follows the story line that John Garvin planned out.

And how many of those sales were deep discounts, I wonder, I paid a tenner last Christmas.

A good analysis, the rest of your post. Personally, I don't buy large open world games on release as I don't want to spend want my first playthrough scouring forums looking for workarounds to bugs/ glitches. Luckily, I'm not representative of gaming consumers, as the market would collapse otherwise. If reviewers encounter enough bugs to mention it, it's not good.

Thanks. I think I paid £15 for mine.

My analysis, is mainly just common sense. I'm a truck driver, not an analyst.
But I've picked things up over the years, and done a bit of reading and watching about Days Gone. It doesn't take a lot to add 2 and 2.
One of John Garvins 'unfortunate' media posts was a bit of a rant at us for buying DG at discounted prices. He has a point, but, for sellers to sell at discounted prices they need permission from Sony to do so. Sony still owns the game, sellers are licensed to sell it. Ranting at us for buying at a deep discount is a rant at Sony for selling at a deep discount.

I saw that at the time, while I do have some sympathy for him, it wasn't a good look.
