Why this never gotten a sequel?
I was playing a lot of the sony games and i must confess that i enjoyed this one the most.
While every medicore game seems to become a sequel i dont understand why not this little gem (makes me a bit sad).

Not enough diversity is my guess.
YourMaster Sep 8, 2024 @ 12:35pm
maybe this game was not really a success, idk. (correct me if i am wrong)
Thorba Sep 8, 2024 @ 1:46pm
Sadly both of you could be correct, it is sad because the setting and characters are very unique, maybe the franchise was too early buried because it had a lot of potential.

It was scrap for the sake of the last of Part 2; the remaster and journalist were too harsh on the game, complaining the game was not enough diverse and the game was too bland and repetitive, causing the game to have a lower score despise a very high player score.

Just another example of a journalist being out of touch with what the core consumer base wants and ruining things for other people and Sony not understanding what fans want.

100% agree, maybe the missing of diversity was the main reason why i liked this game, it has some strong women characters inside but i never had the feeling that they try to push a agenda here. I have a heart for antiheroes like snake plissken or mad max and the main char was fitting into this scheme + exploring a wasteland with a motorbike is just fun.

TLoU2 had nothing to do with DG2 being shelved. Additionally, if TLoU2 sold far better than DG, how are the journalists out of touch with the core consumer? That is completely contradictory.
Maybe it was because the main quest was dire and the characters are cliches. The gameplay was a lot of fun but the storyline and characters were sub par. It's a shame as I keep thinking about another playthrough then I remember I'd have to do the main quests. Still the Zombie hordes were a great idea and the combat wasn't bad either.

If the characters at this game are cliche what are the characters from forbidden west (which i just play)? You need to find a new word for this then:)

Notice I said remastered, not the base game, while it sold well, it also had the most refunded and return copy of all time due to the disappointing story in the Tlou2, in 2021 it was confirm Day gone 2 was scrap for last of us 2 remake.

That doesn’t even make sense. Bend isn’t a studio that would be assigned to remaster a game that wasn’t even theirs. There was rumors, but nothing ever confirmed.

As for sales, as of 2022, there were 10 million sales of TLoU2, 8 million for DG. So even if it was mass refunded (couldn’t find evidence that it was, but didn’t look very hard), it still outsold it while coming out a whole year later. It’s pretty murky as to why DG2 wasn’t greenlit, but DG2 was not scrapped because of TLoU2 Remake, it just didn’t perform as well. Your original statement is still incorrect regarding journalism and the average consumer.

Doesn't take a rocket scientist to see the timing, pattern and connect the dots it was scrap for lous2 remastered, while days gone didn't sale well on PS4 release, its exploded in sales when release on PC, better then when lous release on PC.

As for the high numbers trade in there plenty social media post of it, here example
https://www.reddit.com/r/TheLastOfUs2/comments/hcvjtm/the_numbers_of_trade_ins_and_returns_of_the_game/

Last of us part 2 actually sold 44% fewer copy's then its predecessor, most likely due to the disappointment of the story and leaks.
https://tech4gamers.com/the-last-of-us-2-less-copies-predecessor/

and last of us part 2 loses 72% of players after one week.
https://www.truetrophies.com/news/the-last-of-us-part-2-remastered-player-count

Anyway article that gave a clear sign of my point.

A couple things, assumptions aren't facts. Until there is evidence that TLoU2 Remastered is the reason DG2 got shelved, it's an assumption and nothing more. Additionally, DG didn't "explode" on PC. Per the article I linked, it had an additional 1 million in sales on PC as of 2022 making the total of 9 million sales (still 1 million less than TLoU2 on console alone). Unfortunately there isn't reliable data past that year.

Gonna need something a bit stronger than some Reddit posts that this was a widespread occurrence.

This is true, but is irrelevant to the DG2 vs. TLoU2 discussion because it still sold more than DG in a shorter period of time on fewer platforms.

and last of us part 2 loses 72% of players after one week.

This is for the remake, not the original release thus is holds little to no weight with what we are discussing.

Couldn't view the article sadly, but the video contradicts your claim that Bend was set to work on TLoU2. Not sure I trust the credibility of a random on YouTube though.

Oh? You have documents verified statements from the Dev team to the contrary ?

I really think sony and other studios give up to fast if something new dosent make the profit they was expecting. Imagine star trek tng would have been canceled after the first (not ver successful) season, we would miss a big piece of pop culture and great entertainment.
