It isn't required to wipe out all of the hordes to complete the story, only 3 I think are integral to the story. Once the story is completed, all the remaining hordes are marked on your map, you can wipe them out at your leisure. There may be camp jobs you didn't do during the story, and ambush/marauder camps you didn't take out. These can also be done after the story game. But it's best to get level 3 trust with all of the camps, before starting the final mission of the story. Each camp you have lvl3 trust with sends representatives to help you in that final mission.
the hardcore 2 mode of this game isn't fun. goodluck out there.
Most of the achievements will be unlocked naturally as you play the game and they aren't very difficult, although the challenge mode can be a bit frustrating at times.
I'd say take your time and enjoy the game for its story and gameplay the first time around and worry about 100%ing it after you beat it! The game allows you to continue playing even after the end credits, so no worries there!
