Jessie, Memeber of the Biker Gang, Discussion...
Can someone refresh my memory about Deek's history with Jessie in this game? I just got to the point where it was revealed Jessie is Carlos, but I am not remembering clearly who this Jessie character was from earlier in the game. I read online somewhere that Jessie sold out some member of Deek's biker gang or killed him for drugs or something so he was put out of the gang and had his tatoos burned off or something, but I don't remember that honestly from earlier in the game story. Can anyone link me to a video of the cinematics from the game that would jog my memory about Deek's backstory with Jessie?

I would normally just look this stuff up on YouTube or something myself but it's so hard to search for stuff like this about a game while avoiding spoilers... a lot of times people put spoilers right in the title or the video thumbnail.

You don't get any history with Carlos, until Deek realises that Carlos is Jesse.

The history you find out about Jesse isn't in one video, it's in several separate conversations.
So here is a potted history for Jesse.
Jesse was a member of the Mongrels. He got involved in something against club rules, probably hard drugs running (I don't remember exactly). He ended up killing another club member, to try and hide his activities, and got found out. As a result he was thrown out of the club, which means his club colours were removed from him. Unfortunately he had club colours tattooed on his back, like Deacon has. These colours had to be removed from him too. So Boozer, the clubs Sargent-At-Arms and Deacon, a club enforcer, held Jesse down while the club President burned off the tattoo with a blow torch. He survived the experience.
Then comes the Apocalypse, which he obviously survived. He formed the RIPper cult, then discovers that Boozer and Deacon also survived, so tells his members to find them.

The results are part of the game story.

Ah, okay... I had wondered if I skipped some very important cutscene involving Deek's history with Jessie or something. Makes sense I wasn't as clear on what's going on if it was just some dialog I forgot.

I too had a moment of “am I supposed to know this person” when the “big reveal”
Happens. It was kinda a bummer.

In retrospect yes they did say a few things about him. But nothing seemed important enough toning onto. This moment didn’t quite land like intended.,: for me anyway.

Ref' bike club colours. You don't just decide to join a 1% club like the Mongrels. You have to be invited to prospect for the club. You can be a prospect for many months, until you prove your loyalty and suitability to all the club members, then get voted in. It isn't an easy life for a prospect. Once you're accepted into the club, you are Awarded your colours, it's a big deal, especially to the ex-prospect. To have your colours removed from you is an enormous deal. All the work you did as a prospect was for nothing. It's unlikely you'll be invited to prospect for another club, because you've proved yourself to be an unreliable club member, so no other club is going to want you. You are totally on your own, ostracised, and in fact you have a target on your back to all your old friends in the club. That's worse than being a member of a rival club, at least then you have your fellow members for back-up.

How do I know this?
I'm old, I know stuff. I've been a biker for over 40 years. I've never been a 1%er club member, that has never interested me. But I know 1%er club members. I've read a lot over the years, I listen, I learn. !%er clubs are a large part of the biker scene, so it has been in my own interest to learn what is available to learn about them.

I was surprised to learn about what Deacon did to Jesse. It's pretty messed up. But, seems there is a lot of backstory that isn't covered well. Deacon even has a conversation at Sarah's tombstone about it. If Sarah knew Deacon helped torture a guy, I don't think she would see him the same way. Maybe a punishment was in order, but torture? Overall I think Deacon is a bit of a Deek, I know they are going for the bad boy profile but it would help explain some of his behaviors if it was related to his past in the military (PTSD?), etc. But also showing some signs of redemption down the line.

Yeah. He has PTSD, relating to swimming, to drag all the other members of his patrol out of their wrecked HumVee, from a river in Afganistan. That's the main reason why he won't swim, carrying all that weight in weapons and ammo is probably part of it too.
He does swim during the end of story mission.
