Days Gone Low Performance Fix (dxvk)
I been having major issues with this game despite having a beefy pc... The game is also partial to more Nvidia than AMD based GPU's. As well as stuttering when riding the bike.

For those that are struggling, here is a fix hopefully... May not work for some until the Devs possibly remedy these issues with a patch.

dxvk ultimately makes the game perform to vulkan, only issue is you need run the game which causes alot of slow down until the render cache shades are done. once finished you can ride through without stutter and get brilliant performance fps at camps and towns, where before my system would spike to 100% for no reason now my system doesnt even hit 50% usage with butter smooth performance.

download the file dxvk-1.9.tar.gz and extract the tar file and extra that file with the folders and paste them in your games directory. so extract the tar.gz file and than extrat the .tar file where you will see the 32bit folder and 64bit folder. put all the .dll files where daysgone.exe if based.

hope this helps those in need.

I'm going to try this now - if this works we've gotta signal boost it.

I downloaded the files from your link - there were no DLLs, only the tar & gz themselves. Also this looks to be hased for linux? Did this work for you?
Grillo Oct 22, 2021 @ 1:01pm
you need to extract the tar.gz file and than extract the .tar file and you will see 2 folders 32bit and than 64bit and you just copy all the .dll file where the days gone .exe file is.

I use 7zip to extract the 2 files, works like a dream stuttering is gone... the stuttering was on the poor optimization from the game of texture rendering by your gpu so the game spikes to 100% gpu usage causing the drop frames and stutter... also all encampments are run silky smooth.

its for windows and linux... I am using windows 10 pro 64bit latest update.

download 1.9.2

Thank you for clarifying - I've extracted the files in the .exe directory and booted the game. I have the splash screen banner and not much else - I know you mentioned something about the shaders needing to render. Was this your experience as well?

its seems to have stopped after splash screen. The memory is stationary at 560mb.
the final entry in the log is
21:47:03:829 [05928] | INFO | Loading image files for textures ...
how long if it is loading textures does this take??

you dont see a progression bar for the shaders, the shaders compile during gameplay so the gameplay experience will be rough and slow as the shaders are compiling whilst your pgu is rendering everything but once its done its smooth and less taxing on your gpu... this happens when you go to new locations. I tried to find a link to a compiled shader where your computer doesnt have to do it but there isnt much out there. most links they do dont work.

iron mikes camp, copelands camp, Ada Tuckers camp all had severe stuttering and horrible performance for me until i started using dxvk... now i play the game at 1440p on ultra 75fps vsync and no slow performance at all and all camps feel as smooth as butter.

game doesnt get to the title screen. just stops at the splash screen

what system are you running? did you copy across all the .dll files? there is no shader loader progression bar when the game loads up, it should load up as normal.

I tried the above and same issue - game just sits at the splash screen.

Thank you for the effort on this as well - I know tech support usually requires a fee :)

I'm sorry it wasnt able to help your position, heres really hoping there is a future patch that addresses this games optimisation.

thanks for trying, no dice for me. it runs ok for me, but more frames are always welcome

I was having some other issues with my machine and just ended up reinstalling windows completely. For what it's worth, it does seem to have fixed the issue XD
