And just to be clear...I agree with you.
It also didn't help that the game went "over-budget" since it was delayed from 2018 to 2019 and after that Bend had to spend money and time on fixing the bugs.(I also don't think the project lead handled the situation well since he attacked the fans and sony)
The days when we called a game successful because it has sold millions of copies is sadly over. It is much more important to actually see how much money they made since majority of sold copies these days are discounted copies.
sony needs to learn to stop that...
The fact that Bend Studio didn't lay anyone off and in fact is hiring while its works on its new IP that will incorporate lots of things from Days Gone it is safe to say it has been profitable. If it wasn't then like any studio that produces a flop it would downsize especially considering Bend only escalated hiring employees for Days Gone.
At the time Garvin was most likely gaslit by local Sony management thinking the game wasn't profitable hence he said people need to buy not on sale. Jeff Ross talked about how the management acted like the game was a big disappointment and didn't sell.
"if you love the game, don't ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ buy it on sale"
Literally just google the situation.
They're the ones calling it a flop. Also didn't help the game released in a poorly optimized state and took months to get working properly.
So by the time you add in development costs, advertisement costs and the costs of fixing what should have been in proper working order on launch, the game didn't actually make any profit.
Also we get it, you're a Day's Gone fan. But please play anything else. Because your ride or die is a generic post apocalypse zombie/infected game with cringe dialog.
You're replying to a year old post, with misinformation might I add. Of course the game made profit, Sony released that information and admitted it was a financial success. Tell us you know nothing about business and statistics, without telling us.
