I just cant get into it
I wanna love this so badly. Mainly because everyone loves it so much they would trade their 1st born child to play it over.

Its just so bad on so many levels.
-MULTIPLE bugged missions. I bet 50% of the little missions in this game are bugged. I literally have to yt the "workarounds".
-Fuel consumption even with Level 2 tank is a joke. You have to stop and look for gas every 10 minutes of game play, Totally kills any immersion.
-The walking animation during a dialogue or when you are trying to follow a character and have a conversation is slow and boring af. Im about to come out of my skin. Game could use 50% less cut scenes
-Bike chases and gun play! WTF? I get 20 rounds with a pistol and NONE of the hits register even when the reticle is tiny.
-I feel like I drive the same exact roads for every single mission. There's really nothing to look at after about 30 hours.

Its just not for me I guess. I just wish I could see the allure everyone is so hyped about.

It definitely took some time to get into. I think I stopped for several months after I got to the early mission at the cemetery. Once you finally get more than the first set of guns it feels like it picks up more. That's not to say there aren't still frustrating parts, but I went from not wanting to play at all to wanting to 100%.

If you're at 30 hours though, it probably isn't going to click.

Well, that's disappointing to hear.

If it would come without those Problems, we would have a Days Gone 2 by now... Are there Mods for this game, those might help you enjoy it a bit more.

I have the maxed out fuel Tank, and it lasts for some time, but still feels off. With all the bike upgrades, they should have added one for holding a Fuel Canister. Some of the Ripper etc, have bikes with those too...

Even if its just a one time use, it would help a lot.

If I hadn't played on Survival I'd have been bored out of my mind personally. The game is very easy.

I'd say give it a shot on either Survival or even Survival 2 which should make every decision matter for a good portion of the early game.

I agree. The game is painfully too easy even on the hardest difficulty. But there's mods to help with that. And self-imposed restrictions. In my opinion, the most game breaking thing in this game is the Focus ability (slowing down time to aim). It's simply much too powerful with mouse-aim.

Currently, I'm on my 4th playthrough and running with several mods and I simply can't get enough of this game now (seriously deeply addicted, it's THAT good!):

-Increased all spawns, spawn radius and random open-world human encounters
-Freaker hearing raised 10x (this is another big game changer)
-Reduced cooldown on freaker attacks
-Unnerfed human fire-rate (In vanilla, they shoot half the rate of the given firerate of whatever weapon they're holding which is stupid - now a machine gunner will cut your ass down quick if you just run out in front of them, as it should be)
-Increase engagement range of all human AI (including snipers)
-Increase cost of all ammo/weapon/bike upgrades
-Less XP for mission to slow down leveling to make up for increased spawn
-Increased reward of all bounties and sellables but cannot carry as much
-Rebalancing of all weapons (including melee) so there's no longer obviously OP weapons that make all the other weapons useless
-Increase melee durability (to deal with the fact there's way more enemies now)
-Realistic carry loads (can hold more smaller items, but less bulkier items)
-Drastically increase respawn time for all crafting material (like plants, scrap, etc) - things feel more finite ... a reason to conserve and be less wasteful, a reason to sleep more often to allow for things to eventually reapawn in places you cleared out.
-A buttload of visual upgrade mods (to make this already gorgeous game even more beautiful), and QoL things such as instant car hood/truck opening, cleaner survival vision, etc
-Reduced brightness of night time, increase flashlight and bike headlight for a more horror effect at night
-And finally, disabled Focus skill.

To many, removing the focus skill entirely is too much of a hinderance. Then, I recommend only allowing yourself one point in it (talking about the Nero checkpoint injection), though it's still too powerful imo (i did this for my 2nd playthrough).

I also recommending NOT in selecting Ear to the Ground skill. Feels way too much like a cheat (wall hack) and the human AI is already kind of dumb. Just invest in a good pair of headphones with simulated surround.

Don't get me wrong, the game is still fun without mods, but it's way better with it if you want more of a "survival" feel. With these mods, you're not just playing to progress the story, which is sort of how I felt before. Hell, missions are no longer even a highlight anymore, merely just excuses to enjoy awesome open world encounters. It gets insanely crazy. Like mini horde encounters constantly... but of everything. And because everything is aggressive towards each other, it's just becomes an insanely fun chaotic free for all while "out in the ♥♥♥♥".

Hated it. Literally one of the worst games Ive played in years. Story was "ok". But the game play was horrible. SO SO SO many glitched out areas. And the world looked C- at best.
From the dumb snipers you can barely avoid. To the slow a$$ walking animations that leads you through some garbage dialogue. And 'killer crows'?? GTFO
I skipped over half the dialogues. Only thing cool was Deek and Boozer's relationship. That was it.
Happy to move past this waste of $. Sorry to $hit on yalls parade.

Was the other way around for me, the gameplay was alright. Junk food sort of stuff. But good lord the story is unbearable past the Hot Springs arc.

Hmm... may be just better to share my pak folder via google drive to you or something.
Real Quick if you want to get started:

-Freaker hearing 10x (scroll to the bottom of his files for the 10x & vision unchanged variant): https://www.nexusmods.com/daysgone/mods/206/

-Increased random ambushes and general spawn (first download link variant is good): https://www.nexusmods.com/daysgone/mods/414

-Darker Nights (The download includes many options - choose the level of darkness you're willing to handle - Dark sky, moon brightness and camera exposure brightness - personally I leave exposure stock, but lower moon brightness but play around and find the level of horror game feeling that suits you): https://www.nexusmods.com/daysgone/mods/330 or.. if you don't want to play around, just use this dude's settings (which also brightness the flashlight/bike light to compensate https://www.nexusmods.com/daysgone/mods/463

-Many QoL stuff like FOV, remove stupid hitmarkers, nitro camera zoom, etc here: https://www.nexusmods.com/daysgone/mods/462/ oh and this one (instant car opener) https://www.nexusmods.com/daysgone/mods/179

-Re-adjust prices and respawn time. This guy's mod is extensive! Make sure to read his description: https://www.nexusmods.com/daysgone/mods/458

-Unnerf human AI firerate and rebalance weapons (Make sure to check out his google doc sheet of all changes, it's extensive): https://www.nexusmods.com/daysgone/mods/456

-Slow down leveling since you'll be killing more (you notice most of the heavy lifting comes from this guy, you might consider running all his mods if you like what you're seeing. I enjoy mix and matching): https://www.nexusmods.com/daysgone/mods/460

-Increased melee weapon health (this goes against those extensive changes Lexo1000 is making so load order matters, I would put this after his pak files as you saw in my screenshot provided): https://www.nexusmods.com/daysgone/mods/370/

-Unfortunately, for the AI-enhanced mod, you'll need to join the modding discord as he abandon Nexus mod altogether. His mod also increases spawn, but he also makes other small changes as previously stated, such as shorter cool down on freaker attacks, Screamer calls a bigger horde, etc. If you don't want to bother with that, can probably get away with this to at least get the screamer to call a larger horde: https://www.nexusmods.com/daysgone/mods/131

This will get you started on all the gameplay changes at least.

-For the visual enhancements, there are just so many on nexus mods to choose from. I'm not a fan of Reshades as they have a greater impact on performance as it's an extra layer on top of the videocard's rendering load so i recommend this one of which i chose the optimized version (follow his instructions, it isn't a "pak" file installation): https://www.nexusmods.com/daysgone/mods/364/

-If you want to get rid of the game's potato face, you'll need this one: https://www.nexusmods.com/daysgone/mods/375/

-If you're interested in getting rid of the biker aesthetic, these are all done really well: https://www.nexusmods.com/daysgone/mods/239/

** Oh fair warning, in order to get the spawn changes, you'll need to progress the game to the point where a new enemy is introduced (like when the Bleacher or Breaker is introduced via cutscene). You can start an older save file prior to one of those moments, or you can just start a new game. Be warned though, a new game will feel harshly unfair and you'll die a lot the first few hours but know there's light at the end of the tunnel - it gets better! Especially if you're opting to use that OP Focus skill. Eventually, you'll be able to handle it, no matter how obnoxious it gets (like a wolf or bear swarm) where exploiting bad AI pathfinding is no longer cheating, it's ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ survival! 😅 Also, don't forget virtually everything is hostile to each other! Use it! It's arguably the funnest part of this game. The chaos that creates. Especially with freaker hearing turned up, they swarm in for miles just to get in on that action! 🤣

Have fun! 🤘

Hey man, thanks for the Steam points! I appreciate it. 🙂

I've been making little videos clips of my current modded playthrough and sharing it on a Days Gone FB fan page lately, but I figure I may as well throw 'em up on Youtube too to provide examples of the changes here (especially if I'm actively recommending them). I don't record full-time since it kills my framerate (my PC is severely underspec'd for this game - 1st gen i7) so I often forget or miss recording some of the insane moments that happen on nearly every play session... but I captured these recently, for what it's worth.

These clips are all 'early game' of my current playthrough (mid-teens in levels, on avg). I'm just taking my sweet time and just enjoying what the mods have to offer. Simply immersing myself in the steller ambiance of this game as I loot abandoned buildings while heading towards whatever destination my mission dictates, but never rushed. Most importantly, I never letting a ? on the minimap go unanswered - I believe that's what really takes advantage of the whole "open world" concept that makes this game differentiate over other, more scripted, zombie games. The random encounters on the way to the mission location is what makes every playthrough experience genuinely unique!

These are clips with only 1 focus injection point allowed but heavily spec'd in the Range Skill Tree first:

- Random enemy encounter (Breakers enemy recently unlocked):
https://youtu.be/gQPJLwu_J7Q
- Earlier event, attacked by a horde of wolves:
https://youtu.be/CzqbCGVDKdo
- Introduction of the Screamer:
https://youtu.be/R9XBEApfa9k

I then restarted my 4th playthrough because even just one focus point still feels too OP *to me* and I want more of a survival struggle so this is with Focus Disabled and heavily spec'd in Melee Skill tree first instead (not as progressed as before - Haven't even unlocked Breaker or screamer enemy yet):

- Rescuing Lisa from Marion Forks (really early game):
https://youtu.be/8CVTBGGslQM
- Ambushing the Berley Lake Ambush Camp.
https://youtu.be/YolFvM-BnUI
- Random enemy encounter turns into a Bear Horde event:
https://youtu.be/o1RcD8VFXl8

If any of those videos don't load properly, just give it a few minutes. I just uploaded it so Youtube is "processing HD" for what seems like, forever. 🙄

Hopefully this conveys the fun of the mods and justifies all the trouble to configure it. If you have any questions, just let me know and I'll try and answer best i can.

maybe stick to the COD's and PUBG's battle royals.

that being said, play the game on survival II and get mods and dont upgrade any skills and you will soon see even outing for a quick stop for supplies and fuel is a disturbing experience.

mods-
Massive Hordes 500 to 999 everywhere
Quiet Place 25x hearing i recommend 50x hearing
Risky Business
remove hit markers
(for your skill issue) Snipers Take Longer to Shoot you
(for your skill issue) Realistic Bike Speed and Fuel Tank
Increased Special Freakers (good luck fighting multiple Breakers and Reachers and Ragers)
Items Tweak
Faster and Scarier Horde (good luck)
Screamers Summon a Horde (with mod Increased Spawns Swarmers and Bandits for - 300 Horde.
Better Flash Light (for skill issue)

More Ammo (for skill issue with these mods and Survival II)
Realistic Melee Health (for skill issue with these mods and survival II)
Better Suppressors with Mordern Suppressors Mod ( for skill issue with these mods and survival II)
Increase Buckshot In One Shot (30 buckshot recommended (feels more inline with real shot guns as i shoot shot guns at comps) - 60 or more for skill issue with these mods and Survival II)

with these changes the last thing you will be moaning about is how slow NPC's walk and talk or burning crows nests.

all mods are here
https://www.nexusmods.com/daysgone/mods/

and for a real experience dont use focus shot or use a mod to disable it and unbind roll key.

thank me later
