Bro. Just mod the game to your liking. This is what I use:

Later on when you start crafting your own melee weapons they last so long that fixing them becomes trivial.

Good to hear this is temporary thing.

Have you unlocked the skill that double your materials size?

I never run out of scrap because I rarely use melee weapon.

Never play a modern Zelder title. But yeah it gets better lol. I like it in a game like Days Gone, in Zelda... it's just straight up retarded.

I picked up a stick with a sawblade on it pretty early in the game and have been using it ever since, no problems maintaining it. And I'm using melee a lot. Investing in skills that increase damage helps of course.

Sup bro, don't worry, this is just at the beginning of the game when all melee weapons are practically the same, once you start progressing and fabricating your own weapons they last forever, you usually fix them just so you can pick up scrap metal.

I find it's best to use a baseball bat rather than a stick, it lasts a bit longer.
Strangely, while playing on Hard 2, most combatants needed 3 strikes, while on Survival 1 only needs 2 strikes, so it lasts even longer.
I rarely run out of scrap, but of course when I do, there isn't any around to collect. Murphys Law prevails even in internet worlds (there are various names for Murphys Law) :steamhappy:

Never bothered comparing too much. I was happy with it and so I stuck to it until I came to the militia area where something much better was found. Now that I'm playing new game plus I'll try a few more things. It never occured to me in my first playthrough that crafting a new weapon from time to time might be lighter on ressources than maintaining one with scrap.

Yeah, don't use melee weapons if you don't have too. They're weakest part of this game.

It's not nearly as ridiculous as in Zelda, Dead Rising, and Bethesda games, but for a game trying to be realistic it's stupid.

They should have tweaked it where weaker melee objects like a lead pipe or bat never break, and better upgraded items do more damage but are also more fragile as a tradeoff.

Early melee finds suck on durability but later game melee weapons and the ones you make last longer.
