Data collection?
I want to buy this game since it's on sale but reviews are saying that this game has some pretty aggressive telemetry/data collection going on and I'm hesitant to buy it if that's the case. If it's true is there a way to opt out before playing or is there a setting in-game?

What data are you actually concerned a game developer/publisher would have access to? Surely no more than your phone or OS already collect.

The biggest concern is private information such as passwords. One review I read wrote this:
The Data Collection policy is an absolute joke. This isn't just collecting Diagnostic information from your PC (something I would be absolutely okay with), it states very blatantly that even the 'Limited' data collection which is somehow still the LESS invasive form of collection can look and save literally anything from websites, passwords via recording EVERY KEY STROKE OF YOUR COMPUTER WHILE THE GAME IS RUNNING, folders, and all of their contents regardless of file type.
I don't know if this is actually true though or if this is an optional thing so that's why I made this thread.

So then block the game's access to the internet via your firewall.

If a game, or any other application, records keystrokes and accesses files outside its own installation directory, then it should be made public and everyone should be up in arms about it. And certainly not buy it. I presume soon we will see seals of approval on games (guaranteed not to look at, record or transmit files outside their own), just like we see stamps of approval on foods (eg organic, no sugar, no salt etc)

Will check that out for sure, thanks for the help!

You will be asked if you agree for submitting additional telemetry on your first launch.

But if you're concerned about data gathering uninstall steam and avoid going online at all.
Because there's barely a game launcher that collects more data than Valve does.

Exactly. They should've cared about it 22 years ago. Not now.

I'm pretty sure it was just one random Steam reviewer who invented the idea of Days Gone collecting invasive telemetry. The EULA is standard gameplay data collection stuff, and no one has ever dug up any evidence of the game collecting invasive data (which would be amassive deal, and widely reported).

However, since I was nervous when I first saw those concerns too, I decided to monitor Days Gone while I played, and I was able to find that it never made one report to the cloud. It never once tried to make a connection. I assume this is just a random guy on Steam making things up. Probably won't assume otherwise until someone can actually prove this game collects any invasive data. Surely that would be easy for any dataminer.
