Here, I'm gonna copy pasta the instructions I recently wrote to someone else who asked about mods for this game similar to you. should help:
If you stick to the "pak" version of mods, it's quite easy to install.
copy these pak files to:
%LocalAppData%\BendGame\Saved\Paks
FYI - create a folder if it's not there, mine wasn't.
Now inside your game install directory: Rename the sfpaks folder to sfpakss (or whatever you want to call it. It doesn't really matter as long as it's different than default. Mine is located here (yours will probably be something like this depending on what drive your steam library is located at): D:\SteamLibrary\steamapps\common\Days Gone\BendGame\Content
And you're done!
FYI, if the game ever gets updated, you have to rename the sfpaks folder again apparently but I presume that doesn't happen much as this game is pretty much done getting updates and patches, sadly.
As for the "cooked" versions of mods, I dunno. I haven't bothered yet, but most of the mods, you can just use the pak file method.
Fair warning, sfpaks folder that you rename is pretty big (15.6gb) and acts as some sort of game cache. So when you rename it, you'll have longer loading times as it will have to extract the necessary game content in real time. But it's nothing dramatic. I hardly notice it and my system is dog slow, so I imagine it's a complete non-issue with people with current gen hardware. Have fun!
You're welcome! Glad it worked. HF!
