1. Make sure the control layout is correct
On the steam client on your pc click on days done. Before clicking play there should be a row of options like Store page, Community hub, Etc. at the end of the list there should be a controller layout option (https://imgur.com/a/1RAhk8R)
2. Make sure days gone didn't disable controller input.
When you open your game and your at the main menu Click on the options button (https://imgur.com/a/66UXfeD). In the options you want to either click "E" once on the keyboard or click on the controller option (https://imgur.com/a/hDT9JgF). In the controller option you want to make sure the setting "Ignore Controller" is Off.
Hopefully this helped in one way or another. I added imgur links if your having trouble finding the settings. If you cant get it to work installing it on your steam deck is your best bet, It runs decent on the deck. I get 40-60 FPS on high settings.
#1 was set properly.
#2 I think this was the answer. I toggled this and did a reboot. Previous reboot failed.
I think what might have happened was the first time I streamed this game I tried loading into the game when my computer was first started and still on the lock screen (which produces some odd behaviour in remote play).
So a toggle of that setting and another machine reboot with logging in seems to work flawlessly now.
Thanks for the help!
