Where are all the missions? (Spoilers)
So I've played about 18 hrs of this so far, just in the first two original areas at the moment and I have cleared a few nests, a couple of camps, couple of Nero outposts, and now I have found I only have one mission available, to visit my girlfriends tombstone or something.

I do have one enemy camp I have just found yesterday and another nest I've just found but compared to other games like Dying Light and Cyberpunk I don't seem to have many missions in the waiting at all? It's getting to the point where I wont have any missions to do?

Does this improve later on?
Or is this just what the game is like - a slow trickle of occasional missions.
Or should I be exploring more to find more stuff to do ie be a bit more proactive?

This game's story is actually quite lengthy and there are a lot of main story missions.

It sounds like you're less than half way through.

There's two entirely different areas as you progress (lost lake and crater lake) and each has a story arc.

I would imagine I am only a quarter way in but the missions seems to be dying off a bit, maybe its just because the game is very long.

I am around 25 hours, I notice that sometimes you need to ride out for someone to call you to give you mission.

I'm surprised you've only done a few missions in 18+ hours. I've got slightly more play time and have done a pretty large number of missions so far. Guess it depends on what you've been doing and whether or not you're exploring or sticking to known areas.

No I've done quite a few missions which is why there is only one left. Like I say I've cleared Nero checkpoints, got rid of a couple of camps, got rid of a few infected nest sites, killed a person/bounty and got treasure from graveyard etc, now I only have one mission left to do which is visit the girlfriends grave.

Visit the tombstone. I don't think you're meant to ignore that. You can find yourself without any missions though. They're pretty linear so if you've reached Tuck's camp the next one will probably come as a radio call from Tuck, so do like AKPanda said and ride out. When you're done with Tuck the story will move you to a new area and you'll start getting missions from there.

OK I was just surprised at the lack of missions after playing other games. I tend to take my time anyway and don't rush games along, so I might just spend a bit of time exploring the first two areas and see what else there is to see.

A new block of things to do will open up once you go see the grave. Some hordes and camps don't spawn till you advance storylines far enough. There will be a ton of bounty hunts, story missions, side quests etc that appear as you move through the main story. Also nero checkpoints, ripper and squatter camps. There are 40 hordes to take on but they won't all spawn till near the end of the game and 3 of those you'll wipe out during the story.

18 hours and in the beginning of the game? WTF did you even do? And you did all the side stuff and you ask if the main story is better? What?

18 hrs is nothing for me. I dont rush through games.

Ive encountered that problem as well, at one point i didnt even have a single mission to do. Im still missing 1 copeland encampment mission which he refuses to give me. I'm nearly finished with the game too. i mostly just have hordes to finish, collectibles and whatnot and probably the final few story missions left. im like 60 hours into the game, its quite long and very good.

Exactly. I did that mission pretty early into my playthrough so I must have unlocked a lot more missions than Nats has.

Well I've just followed the chopper, after visiting the girlfriends grave, and got rid of one Nero site to the north of the map near the chopper location, and seen maybe two small hordes around. I would imagine I am still less than 1/3 of the way through the game.

I am enjoying it but yeah the missions are coming one after the other and only have one mission at a time to do it seems. That's ok it does encourage you to explore the map a bit to try to find more camps. But its a bit linear for an open world game. I feel this game could do with you having at least 3 or 4 side missions to do at any one time rather than just the one main storyline. It's progressing quite slowly.

Nothing like Dying Light or Cyberpunk though lol where you have one or two main story missions and loads of side missions to do at any one time.

I mean I don't tend to rush my games and it even feels a little slow to me lol.
