Days Gone: Black Screen Bug When Launching Game

Am I the only one who is having an issue where the game won't properly load in? After launching the game, the Sony text shows up and then fades away into the black screen. I have waited on that black screen for 15 minutes and nothing happened.

Here's what I have tried so far:
1. Restarting PC
2. Updating NVIDIA drivers, windows OS
3. Disabling Anti-Virus
4. Disabling Steam and NVIDIA overlays
5. Running game as administrator from local files directory
6. Opening game on windowed mode
7. Alt+Tab out and back in to the game
8. Uninstalling and re-installing the game
9. Renaming the "Movies" folder to "Movies_2"
10. Frantically click various keys and mouse while launching game
11. All of the above at the same time

My PC far surpasses the recommended specs for the game so I really have no idea what the issue could be. I tried looking for solution on Reddit and googling the issue but all the stuff I came across did not solve my issue.

I tried contacting Steam's customer support but they were not helpful, claiming they can't help at all because Days Gone is a third party game. I also tweeted at Bend Studio asking if they could provide some assistance since Steam can't. I heard back from them today 5/19/21 at 9:43am. Bend Studios says they are looking into the issue.

All this to say, has anyone else encountered this issue? If so, any solutions or ideas why this would happen? I really want to play the game *sadface*

This worked for me!

- Go to game folder and look for Movies folder > "BendGame\Content\Movies" and delete the 3 videos in it.

- Now go to your local app data folder and look for > "BendGame\Saved\Config\WindowsNoEditor"

- Open "Game.ini" and add those below, then save the file:

Ended up having the same issue, fixed by renaming movies folder. Launching game (loaded with no audio), then closing game, renaming the folder back and loads normally

I've tried renaming the Movies folder, renaming the files within it and deleting it altogether. In all cases I get through any video intro screens but then I have a black screen with a piano playing and birdsong in the background. I've unplugged any controllers and pressed and clicked all over the black screen - nothing.

And yes, I'd played beyond the Steam refund time limit.

EDIT: OK, tried the easiest solution of the lot from 2 posts ago - alt + enter. That brought up the menu screen and I could switch back to fullscreen once launched. Thanks to OP.

I think I figured out why it would also occur for other people, if you have an Nvidia GPU and let it optimize games automatically.

It could be doing super resolution making the game appear out of frame, reverted it back to normal resolution and the game now boots up fine no issues.

Which is why alt+enter also works and how I noticed my resolution was messed up.

I have been trying everything for last day and a half nothing has worked then I went into setting and changed graphics settings to let windows decide and it’s finally worked

Checked my Nvidia app - it had selected a resolution beyond my monitor's native resolution. When I set back to the native resolution in the app, the game started normally again. Hopefully no need to alt-enter in future.

What worked for me on my pc and gaming laptop (both had the black screen issue). While the game is playing put the system to sleep, wait about 5 minutes and start up as usual. You should come back with the game running and no black screen issue. Change some graphic settings around and it should stop the issue.

I've found a solution guys ! try pressing Alt+enter after the black screen appears.

Found a solution that worked for me. Re-Installing didn't work for me, neither did deleting and re-creating the files mentioned above. What did work for me was switching to windowed mode and back to full screen with the keyboard shortcut ALT + ENTER.

I found a fix, on Nvidia the resolution for the game was not right. I made it the right for my monitor and done.
