I finished the game on Hard, I plan to eventually do another playthrough on Hard II
I did struggled on some battles (mainly the zombie horde ones) but I didn't have too much of an issue with the rest of the game
and no survival mode isn't just one life lol, its the same difficulty as hard II but disables the Game Hud and Fast Travel
All but the very hardest difficulty have basically no consequences for failure. Most checkpointing is within two minutes of the point you died unless you're irresponsible with where you quicksave on your bike, so even if you are struggling on an encounter you're only going to be frustrated rather than actually challenged.
Think of he minimal respawn time you get in Hotline Miami on failure and consider what that does for tension in a game that's ostensiably focussed on survival mechanics.
This game is very casual in terms of general mechanics. Set your expectations appropriately.
To me hard felt like normal , I hope that helps if you get what I'm trying to say :)
I would have played survival but didn't want to lose the hud, I would have been ok with losing fast travel, they should have added a survival no fast travel mode but kept the HUD I would chose it
My subjective feeling it's very easy (having played on Survival II). There is some challenge at the start when you are new to the game and are missing skills/levels/equipment, but it becomes non issue very quickly.
yea once you get guns from the enemies at the first place you stealth at near the tower its fairly straight forward
For the record, it's not permanently gone - you can always call it back for few seconds with the survival/focus key.
still wouldn't have worked out well for me cause I hardly use focus, never needed it the entire game even for the sniper rifle or crossbow when doing long range kills
I completed Survival II on my first playthrough and I spammed Survival Vision to check my Health, Stamina, to look for Random Events, the GPS, Lootable Items and Bodies. It wasn't a great experience for me and for my eyes, so I probably won't touch Survival after a long time. I will be sticking with Hard II since it is basically the same difficulty to Survival II in terms of enemy damage and health, just with the HUD on.
Survival vision/focus key (it's the same shortcut). Basically the only purpose of that vision in survival mode is to peek at the hud.
