using the beta feature that steam has would be useful for showing major mechanical changes early so people can give feedback for them for the actual release onto the main branch.
if it doesn't eat into dev time setting such a thing up i'd be up for it, they can use it for purely mechanical changes that they do in the future so people can give early opinions and suggestions.

Yes, but that's hard to accept for some people apparently

It could definitely be useful for extreme changes, i recall seeing Dead Cells having Beta's, it even went as far as to make a copy of the player's save file, and only use that copy so the original save file is safe if corruption/glitches/etc occur.
Then the beta save file was lost once the beta was over and things where implemented into the main branch/game.

Though i'm not sure if this game needs it, it's still something the devs could consider adding/using, as it is a feature on Steam for a reason.

Extreme changes like this would need a beta branch yes. Especially if PM wants to keep the weekly update schedule, the update pushed on Friday was obviously broken and not ready for main branch release (most glaringly, the stacking of identical passives). It just isn't plausible to release a massive rework of one of the pillar mechanics of the game with a content update every Friday.

I don't think anyone would mind if PM took an extra week or two for big patches like this either, but that's a different matter from the topic at hand.

Yes, public beta, not pre-production or alpha. Sure, they can push updates this big to the main branch, but in that case it would be better if they take an extra week where they do not release additional content to polish and finalize it. Using a testing branch, even if only given to a select few people they trust, would be easier for them.

We have to let people know that exploiting mechanics that have yet to be properly balanced by say, manually merging multiple page passives together of your own volition, is infact your own fault and don't have any real reason to ruin your own experience in an unranked single player game beyond outing yourself as big dumb unga bungas.

While I agree with you, there are great expectations to always release on Fridays, as Pmoon promised to do something to that effect, like the release cycle of a weekly publication(I think they tweeted something like that).

I don't understand the distinction between public beta and alpha or pre-production.
I would have assumed this game to be in alpha, because it is in no way complete.
We may get additional mechanics as we get further into the story.

THIS IS THE BETA BRANCH ALREADY, ITS EARLY ACCESS, WHY WOULD YOU BUY AN EARLY ACCESS GAME NOT EXPECTING THINGS TO BE CHANGED, AAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAA
Sir Bink Sep 14, 2020 @ 9:43am
this IS beta.

To be completely fair Lobotomy Corp's Legacy version followed this update pattern where they would make massive changes to the game in the regular release instead of a beta branch. If i am wrong about this please correct me.

Even though this game is early access, it operates a beta program and is successfully leading it.
