Not counting the first three phases you need to get past, what's probably the biggest hurdle for most decks is the Big Eyes phase of apocalypse bird. With its power null effect, it reduces you to raw dice rolling.
If you're still having difficulty with a Gashes build, use Olivier or Mirinae w/ 12 Fixers slapped on her as your foundation keypage. 12 Fixers is not considered power stacking as it affects the natural rolls of the dice. So Big Eyes' power null gets punished hard by 12 Fixers.
Now we all have our own decks and playstyle, so I'll just list down some deck profiles I've successfully used against Apocalypse Bird and the thoughts behind them.
Binah - the forever troll of the library - Not like you have much of a choice with this one. Passives wise, I would run her with some form of power stacking, Fervor is the usual suspect, and some form of healing. Her real jewel is Degraded Pillar as the first die on that page automatically deletes the 1st die it clashes with. Choose your targets wisely and she can be your most valuable asset. I normally slap Lamp on her due to this.
Rapid Gashes - Send in the Clones - Big Bulky Dice, even with Power Null, this build can stop any attack cold. Preferably used with 12 Fixers. Dong-Hwan can also work since he can give himself protection and stagger protection.
Kalo "Hail of Bullets" Discard (ran with Hanafuda passives and Denis' 'Additional Supplies' and Mika's Best Choice) - Focus Fire, Shock Round, Suppressive Fire, having another ranged page user on hand to help eat counter dice can help take the load of Binah. The fact he can drop protection now and again is more of icing. The real meat of the profile is the sustain you can get when "discarding" ammo pages. And if you're starting to get low on light, just shoot with all the excess ammo pages you end up generating.
Nikolai (any build) - the rising tide lifts all boats, that's basically Nikolai in a nutshell. Once he sits at 11+ charge, he just boosts everyone's power output till Apoc. Birbs Big Eyes. I usually ran Nikolai with the singleton economy engine and whatever flavor of the day I wanted on him -which was usually charge based anyways-. Keep at least one big bulky card like Sturdy Defense to block summations.
Purple Tear aka. Granny Go-Places - Versatility is her name. You can either go all-in on a single deck type or switch stances a lot to take advantage that she comes in with 36 combat pages on her. The former, you stack power for that one deck you'll just be using. The latter, you need some omni power like Yujin's 'Eye of Death' so you can switch w/o thinking too much.
Yan - Prescripts are Precious - Like Nikolai, Yan's prescripts can be a godsend in helping those librarians in a tough spot. I usually ran him with a Sword of Volition build for fun, but a standard deck using his exclusives works well. Best paired with Mirinae since 'Hana for All' also activates with the prescripts.
Irina - The Light Generator - A special build that uses 3 Swords of Volition, 3 Brace ups, 2 Clones, and Multi-party compensation (MPC). Once you're done cloning Multi-party compensation, you'll be using SoV as your main clash card while following-up with Brace-up to hopefully discard MPC to give light to others. Fair warning, once you hit Big Eyes of Apocalypse Bird, there's a good chance it'll lose against the summation page so taking out Big Eyes is a priority. For consistency, passives can be Sayo's 'Battle Ready' and Proselyte's 'Skim the Prescripts' alongside Fervor.
Allen/Night Awls - It's Bamboo-Hat Kim but Pierce - There are a lot of pierce combat pages out there; and w/ Wedge and Singular Strike, you can turn single-point stab from a 3-9 to an 8-14. light can be handled by wedging thorn and/or frontal assault while draw can be answered by brace up. Plus Sturdy Defense can answer any summation page and gains the benefit of the pierce passives. Also, Dagger Press becomes pure value once you have +3 power on its offensive dice. Heck, Gale Kick is a monster of a page since it's pierce, can be affected by singular strike, and even has a pierce counter die to go with it.
Xiao - Angry Dragon Lady - Once this little dragon has gone full EGO, her mass attacks are useful in deleting pesky dice you don't want to deal with. Just don't run Crying Children's 'Flaring Brand' on her during the realization, you don't want to inflict burn on your allies. Also, if you run Light Generator Irina with her, then her biggest problem goes away and you'll be able to drop her mass attacks more consistently.
Hubert/Gloria/Esther - The Index Trio - these 3 do surprisingly well here. Hubert's Decapitation is a giant number. Gloria's Eradication can help give you breathing room against the minions in the first three phases. And Esther's Castigation can help you stagger the boss faster if it lands. While not personally my first choice, they can work. Also, with this being a Realization, Unlock-1 has good value since once it gets to Unlock-3, it's a 0 cost draw and light regen.
And that's all I got. Now this isn't an all-encompassing guide, so I'm sure there are other builds out there way better than what I posted. Hopefully, this can give you (and maybe others who are also struggling) an idea on how to handle Apoc. Bird.
Good luck!
Make sure to bind all opponent attacks to own pages which might likely win clashes against them. Of course there can always be one or two hits which come through, because of bad luck.
Against this it helps to use low speed dice for some additional one-sided attacks on the little birds to transfer any remaining sin to them. If you made sure to only counter their attacks (and NOT kill them), they should live long enough to take that sin. I always go with unlock I, II and III for that kind of utility purpose.
Afterwards in the next turn Judgement Bird will kill the small birds and be easy prey to stagger in that phase, trivializing the rest of the fight with you having 5 librarians for the Apocalypse Bird Phase.
I personaly didn't have Yan (or Xiao) unlocked for the Religion and Philosophy Realizations, so I dont know about that. ;)
Well, I think its everyones own decision if he wants to use a "strong" trick which cancels the challenge or wants to strategize around it in ones own way. Both are legit ways.
been 10 hours i can't past this stage.
Bring at least 1 Rapid Gashes deck (3 Rapid Gashes, 3 Clones, 3 0-cost economy cards) while your other nuggets should have at least one card that can outpower the 1st phase w/ just high rolls (e.g. Sturdy Defense).
my build i used that could carry to apoc bird :
binah - cecil+may+ sweeper hp stagger heal passives. overall okay.
xiao - i equipped burn deck for her, bi an (also for blocking atk or mass atks)+2 0-cost for light and page draw. cecil+mei+sweeper heal+lowell fighter passives. overall doesn't suffer from light or page drain. using her mass attacks carefully around punishing and judgement bird. overall okay.
yan - still not sure since i am building it around, any builds? i use his mass atk to kill minions, i also wanna make someone that can regen light for everybody. sweeper hp stagger heal+mirinae's hana for all passives. suffering from low light+page draw ..
PT - overcharge build with guarding stance, i use energy conversion for light and page draw and identify weakpoint. not sure about using other stances or leap. used sweeper hp stagger heal+sayo battle ready+ seven association fixer passives. overall okay and tanked pretty well till apoc.
nikolai - charge build, with disposal for nuking apoc and also battle command to buff others. + sturdy defense. used mei+cecil+ sweeper hp stagger heal passives. my problem is just apoc deleting her disposal.
i use abno cards : lamp (binah), the weight of sin+tilted scale (PT), punishing beak (PT).
hopefully to pass this stage one day. maybe i did my build a bit wrongly.
But going back to light issue, you could always run the singleton engine (Unlock-I, Multislash, Will of the City, and Will of the prescripts). It's not the fanciest, they're not the strongest, but they'll keep your deck afloat for both light and card draw. Besides, you'd still have half the deck to flavor to your liking.
As for Nikolai's Disposal, it's RNG at its finest if it keeps getting deleted.
As for PT, while using Overcharge is tried and tested, I'm not really a fan of building her w/ charge in mind. I just treat Overcharge as a unique card due to its huge dice rolls. Normally, I use PT to switch stances when needed so I tend to give her Yujin and one of the Index trio's Blade Unlocked. Personally, I like her pierce stance to apply paralysis.
As for Identify Weakpoint, it's okay, I suppose. I'd prefer using Serpentine Barrier/Duel myself to take advantage of the stance's power boost.
Yan is pretty funny in that he could be built as a meme or just by giving him the singleton engine, he functions pretty fine with his gold exclusives. But if you plan to run Yan, make sure you run Mirinae, since her passive will proc on his prescripts, allowing you to get more value from them.
Also, for Weight of Sin, give it to someone who's running olivier. If you can get the minimum value of his rolls to become higher than the max, weight of sin will just automatically proc.
You could also consider running someone with singular strike. Apocalypse Bird runs a lot of ranged pages, so someone like Kim/Allen can shut down almost half of his deck. And if you're running Kim, you could lost Yield thy Flesh to try and nab Claim thy bones.
Otherwise, it looks like piloting and minor tweaks are just what you need. You seem to have the fight nearly mastered.
GL!
