TL;DR, you can play Library of Ruina as a standalone since it explains everything pretty well both leading up from Lobotomy and in Library itself, but do be prepared to be a bit confused about some of the terms until you come to understand more about the world itself. Just keep an open mind, and a bit of patience. The game's rated in the 90's on Steam for a reason.
i guess when i come back home i just hop into it and be prepared to not understand everything :D
As others said before, you won't miss out on the story if you play Library of Ruina. The things that happened in LCorp will all be explained at some point.
But contrary to Gespenst, I would say Lobotomy Corp is an artistic masterpiece too and definitly a secret tip which is worth to be played. :)
Considering "liking that type of game". I wouldn't even say Lobotomy Corp fits into any one Genre. Thats what makes it interesting: Its authentic.
You have to be fine with figuring out things on your own though, as well as being fine with a certain amount of randomness and about restarting from the beginning after things go haywire. I guess thats whats meant with "those type of games"
The story isn't half bad too, from my point of view. It might even increase the curiosity for Libraria of Ruina, since there are a lot of things in the plot about the game world, which were left open and are now explained in Library of Ruina.
TLDR: You might want to give LCorp at least a chance, to see if it fits your taste.
If you play Library of Ruina first, you wont miss anything, I think, but you will certainly spoil the plot for LCorp.
But if you're more gameplay-focused, then I guess there's no harm in starting with LoR, especially as others said, LoR gives you a effecient recap of what happened in Lobotomy Corp. Not the full set of story and details, but enough to go on.
It's still better than the" true" ending " of the Library. Yes, in lobotomy, you don't immediately understand it, so people made a separate article on the wiki, since it had to be extracted from the grains of dialogues and stories of abnormalities.
Which fits to the entirely theme of Lobotomy Corporation to figure things out yourself. Observe, Analyze, Understand.
I for one don't see why anyone would call the story of LC "bad". I was kind of happy to have a game with some characters you could truly care about (and I did) and I enjoyed all those Awakening Situations of said characters.
Add to that anomalies with some interesting background snippets, and I would consider LC as one of the stronger games when it comes to storytelling. (Albeit not very approachable for a common audience, I guess)
