What are Yellow Dice?
I don't think it was explained anywhere through progression, but now pages come with yellow dice on attack defense

Yellow dice are counter dices. They are used when someone does a one sided attack on the user. The dice will be reused if it wins a clash until it loses a clash or all dices in a combat page are used against it.

I'm guessing you're fighting either Emma and Noah or puppets, so here's an example
Emma uses Sharp Nails, which has a counter dice.
Your first one sided attack (blue arrow) towards Emma will clash with the counter dice.
If the first dice in your page loses against the counter dice, your second dice will also clash with the counter dice, and if it also loses, it will also be continued to the third dice and so on.

However if one of your dice wins against the counter dice, the rest of your dices won't clash against the counter dice.

Just imagine the counter dice being a melee page, and your one sided attacks are ranged attacks.

I remember there being an explanation about counter dices during battle but it was a bit too late for that explanation lol. You can also check the manual (F1) for the explanation

I finally got the explanation now on the puppet battle, but i already had cards in my deck and the anomalies have been fighting have them too.

And those dice get used on offense and not just defending against one sided attacks?

There will also be block and evade type counter dices later in the game, but only a few of them.

Sounds like another thing to add to the Bug Report. Basically just say that the Counter Dice tutorial does not appear in the 8 'Clock Circus reception and hopefully it will be fixed soon.

By the way, the only reason it's explained in the Puppet reception and nowhere else is just because the Puppets were the first fight added that actually used this mechanic.

Note that this is important to dealing with counter dice. The best way to get rid of them are by spamming single hit ranged pages. The counter dice will clash against the ranged die, and regardless of win or lose, it will disappear since that's the only die on the range page. Also because it's a ranged page, you won't get hit for losing the clash and unlike a normal attack, it won't follow up after winning the clash

Note that unless you're actually clashing using ranged pages, you will actually get hit for each clash you lose against a counter die

Also important to note is that counter dice do not participate in mass attacks. If a purely counter dice page gets targeted by a mass attack, the mass attack will be one sided. Keep this in mind when planning out your strategy

short versions is that counter dice effectively do not exist on the page they're from. they're stored at the beginning of the turn and they behave kinda like a stored defensive dice, except they recycle like evade dice against every dice they beat.

@wysteria, I'm end game and I did not know any of this. I kind of figured it out from playing how counter dice work. I had to fight a certain color over and over again, and her counter attacks were mauling the crap out of me.

The Range Rules still confuse me. So if you clash melee against range, if the melee dice wins, I thought the melee attacks get recycled(the dice goes at the end of the queue to be rerolled), or does it resolve whether it wins and lands a hit, or loses?

In that case, range attacks are really great defensive tools against melee then, if I'm not mistaken, just get a range card with many hits just to eat up opponents offensive die.

And what happens if range goes against range?

if melee wins against range, it is recycled yeah (about the dice going to the end of queue, i still dont know if it's a bug or intentional). range is not really a good defensive tool against melee since if you lose clash, the melee dice get recycled and if you win, it just became the same as using normal dice (no recycle). it's best used as counter dice destroyer since counter dice can only be used for clashing enemies dice (no one sided attack) and one sided attack since range dice always go first and then melee dice.

As mentioned above, ranged attacks are good at wasting counter dice since the enemy can't do damage while clashing with a counter die and will not follow up with a one sided attack after winning.

Since they immediately act first (after mass attacks if there are), they're great for finishing off dying or almost-staggered enemies before they can act.

if you want to use a ranged page to clash against a melee page, well, it depends. Ranged pages tend to be quite strong, so you can win most clashes, just know that it's kinda an all-or-nothing attack-ish. And obviously don't use it against a single dice page like extreme edge, celestial spear and all that fun stuff.

a ranged vs ranged clash is just like a melee vs melee clash, nothing different much

if you're fighting a certain color that looks red, do know that back then, counter dice recycled infinitely until it lost a clash. Binah was a godsend because her pillar specifically forced the dice to be unable to be recycled even if she lost the clash, which let you attack without fear of that counter dice.

if you're fighting a certain color that looks purple, then good luck, that boss is a pain

And yes, when you win a clash against a ranged page with a melee page that has 2 or more dice, the dice (if it's an attack dice) gets shuffled to the back. This is very annoying because it eats up any defensive dice in the page. Block dice don't get recycled even when winning the clash, while dodge dice still get recycled normally (if it wins, it will also continue dodging all the succeeding attacks), but are lost after the end of the clash (i.e. cannot be used to defend against a different page). Also, normally you have more strength buffs than you have enduring buffs (not to mention the fact that most offensive dice are stronger than defensive dice anyways), so you're a lot more likely to win the clashes with melee
COUGH COUGH MIRINAE + AUGRY KICKS

If you clash against a ranged page with single hit page like extreme edge, it recycles itself repeatedly for each ranged dice

btw if you kill someone with an attack counterdice,it is recycled for the next one sided clash
