background animations should be able to be toggled in settings
putting your graphics quality to "low" reduces sprite quality.
it does nothing about all the background animations, like yesod's floor and many other floors, particles of light during the roland and angela conversations, etc.
what is the point of having such a setting when animations that mess up lag are not modified, and meaningless cutscene sprites as ruined instead?
the graphics settings need an overhaul to be able to choose between sprites or animation backgrounds, or both at the same time. thanks for reading

I totally agree. Considering how stuff like Hod's floor has a history of being unkind to weaker PCs, there should be a way to replace the backgrounds with a static or semi-static image.

Granted, some floors are definitely more "animated" than others. Still, this is honestly worth it.

Edit: Or perhaps disable the background objects from moving, in cases like Hod's bookshelves.

i also have this problem and this is the main reason i never use yesod floor. the fps is stable on any other floor but for yesod my fps dropped to 10 fps which is super annoying

It's just occurred to me, but while we're at it, Key Page idle animations should be toggleable as well. Currently only a few Key Pages (such as Mars) have idle animations, but I believe (with evidence and reason) that the rest of them are going to get them later on. Because of this, having the ability to disable these probably will help improve performance as well.

This could all be compiled into an 'Animation' setting (toggle for low/high) rather than in graphics. This way you can have high graphics without the animations taxing your performance which may be ideal for mid-range devices.

There's also other settings they could add like effect quality, and could expand on Display settings as well.

Preferably, yes. Turning down graphics for a 10ish fps boost and getting crispy... portrait sprites? Just seems so random lol. Who thought we'd need to lower the portraits' resolution?

Some floors are pretty much unplayable for me, so totally agree. Not sure why either, it's not like my hardware should struggle with this ♥♥♥♥, some bad coding on dev's part. No wonder given stuff like memory leaks in LC.
