Pretty sure it's meant to be a reference to Hinduism, Prakriti and Purusha, their relationship is supposed to be a relationship of the lame and the blind, one can't walk and another can't see (metaphorically). Prakriti exists to follow Purusha and fullfill it's will, while Purusha can't express it's will on it's own. A cripple sitting on the shoulders of the blind.
