I played both portal single players, the spin-offs as well (not that it matters), and I decided to try out some modded stuff, but I don't know where to start. this one, or portal revolution?

why do you ask? i played portal 1 + 2 and i like all the games. i havent playd any other mod than this, and i just played like, independently years after the original games. its fun, so just do it. i dont think the order matters. if you enjoy one just play it, if you dont like it try the other?

Honestly, the order doesn't matter that much. However, keep in mind that Portal Revolution is definitely the most polished Portal 2 mod so far. So it could set your expectations high — at least in terms of storyline, voice acting, scripted sequences and cutscenes.
