"4" dimensions
aren't we technically thinking in 5 dimensions
3 dimensions of space and 2 dimensions of time...

how is time two dimensions?

???

the future is a different dimension to the present time
therefore you are travelling through 2 different dimensions of time

There is only 1 dimension of time in the game.

If you hold a tape measure which shows 100 centimeters from 0 to 100, is that 100 dimensions?

no?

they are different points of time in the same dimension

are you saying every second is a different dimension?

if you waited 100 years then you would be in the exact same dimension of time as from the beginning of your waiting period, in that case the tape measure example would be true, because you've been through those 100 years. throughout those 100 years you have been in 3 dimensions of space and 1 dimension of time

but now you go through a portal that basically skips your existence for 99 years and puts you at a point in your timeline that you shouldn't be at yet. Yes it is connected to your "true" timeline, but it isn't YOUR PART of the "true" timeline. it is your +100 year self's point [which technically doesn't exist since your current self didn't exist for those 99 years :)]. it is a different time to which you are suppose to be in, therefore a different dimension of time

yes the points are part of 1 entire timeline but you are going forward and back from different points. you are travelling in 2 different dimensions through the timeline

the ending sentence makes more sense than the middle but bare with me
Alcatraz Apr 21, 2022 @ 11:28am
its basically 2 different ideas on what i mean by different dimensions
Steven Seagull Apr 21, 2022 @ 11:53am
First of all, if you look into some real physics, the spatial and temporal dimensions are one thing, they come together, you can't separate them from each other, and it is called "spacetime".
So there are no 3 dimensions plus time, because it is the same thing.
See more here: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Special_relativity

Regarding time travel, it is all nonsense and doesn't worth the time even thinking about it, especially about going back in time. Because it brings you to a lot of paradoxes and from that point you can come up with anything like "if you go back in time it creates a new dimension, etc.". Waste of time.

but that's the point of a discussion. having an input of a particular subject whether it's relevant or not
Steven Seagull Apr 21, 2022 @ 12:10pm
Actually it is (3+1)+(3+1) = 8 dimensions then...
Alcatraz Apr 21, 2022 @ 12:15pm
einsteins theory introduces time as the fourth dimension, linking it to the 3 dimensions of space, ergo space-time. but time only moves in 1 direction.

i'm simply saying that we are always living in 4 dimensions but by introducing the ability to travel in another direction through time, it adds another dimension, therefore 5 total dimensions
Alcatraz Apr 21, 2022 @ 12:15pm
its the same dimension of space in a different time so space doesnt change

So if I travel 20km away from my home, "it" will also add another dimension?
Alcatraz Apr 21, 2022 @ 12:32pm
dude, time is a different concept than distance. if you travel 20 km by foot/car/train/boat/plane/horse, you have spent time travelling to that point. you cant take a step and spontaneously appear 20 km away unless you travel through a wormhole which hasn't been proven to be possible.
you cant step through a door and spontaneously become 20 years older, and at the same time you cant step through a door to 100 years into the future.
this whole "travelling to another point means a new dimension?" or "holding a tape measure and each point is a new dimension?" thing is not what i'm trying to say
