Does this game get better?
I just completed the "clock tower" gear puzzle. Talk about frustrating. Then, after a hair pulling period of time knowing it can't be solved as is, I accidentally discover that you can HOLD the lever! Then there seemed to be no discernible revelation for completing the puzzle. Turns out it's one of the big gears on the other side of the island that "opened"? Weird. I'm struggling to follow the logic of this game. I'm willing to learn the "mechanics" of it but so far solving puzzles hasn't been fun or satisfying. The story isn't to intriguing yet, regarding the brothers so I really hope the puzzles become more enjoyable. Or maybe this particular game just isn't for me? Taking a break now, I'll come back to it tomorrow fresh.

You are absolutely right about the tower rotation. I was so over whelmed with my frustration after completing the clock tower I totally forgot that I had oriented the tower to the gear location to get the clock tower clue in the first place. :steamfacepalm:

Ya take a break and come back. Sometimes with these games, patience is the answer! =)

TBH, Myst games are more about discovering new worlds than solving puzzles. The puzzles are designed to keep you in a world and make you explore it throughout. So if you like discovering new exotic worlds, yes, the game gets a LOT better, if you're looking for a rich story and self contained puzzles (AKA "The Room" puzzles). Then, it might not be for you...

Most of the Story is told through books in the bookcase from the library.

The lore and most interesting part of the series' story didn't get developed properly until Riven (The Sequel).

I did really enjoy "The Room" games. But, I also enjoy exploring and slowly walking through places. I haven't been deterred yet. Last night I had a headache and wasn't feeling to good. I definitely plan to keep playing. Also, thanks for the helpful comments guys, the steam forums are usually to toxic to communicate in.

Don't worry about the clock tower being silly. Even the devs have stated that the puzzle is not well designed.
The rest is pretty straight forward (no, not easy, but at least not some stupid mechanic you cant know about) until the end, but even that is relatively straight forward as long you paid attention earlier in another Age (as you always should).
