Speedy Achievement
I don't care if it's POSSIBLE to get this achievement, trying to grind for it is infuriating. I don't think there's a good way to put into words just how quickly trying to get this achievement ruined my good time. The time threshhold is just TOO LOW. Two minutes flat is pushing it into World Record levels of play optimization; this needs to be more forgiving!

Considering Speedy is the ONLY "Atrus early" achievement, I don't think it's unreasonable to ask for a time to beat of 2:30 or 3:00. With only two minutes, you can have a run ruined by misclicking a single button, or lose enough time to VR hardware problems that the run's over no matter what.

This is to say nothing about players who might be playing using a gamepad, or on a display setup that introduces extra input latency; an achievement like this becomes LITERALLY impossible for those players if the margins are that slim.

So I’ve just did a bunch of runs using a combination of teleporting routes as well as Lucid’s all running route. I’m not able to get a sub 2:20. So if going by what I’m seeing the Oculus version’s achievement time for this is, a sub 2:00, I just don’t see how that’s close to being possible on a non VR run.

The fireplace puzzle eats up a lot of time. I just can’t get the mouse to move fast enough despite bumping up my cursor speed. Also hitting the switch on the markers on the first attempt, on all 8 markers, is something that I just can’t do. That’s a very small activation box, even with a maxed cursor size. Both of these I imagine would be much faster and more accurate in VR over a keyboard and mouse, so perhaps that’s where the time saving is at.

As it is on not VR, 2:00 doesn’t seem close to possible and 2:20 seems to be pushing it too close to unobtainable by the vast majority. 2:30 from Dock to clicking the Page in D’ni seems like the challenging yet possible cut off time for non VR.

I am convinced after all this discussion that sub 2:00 is not possible if you're not using VR. I think a better solution than increasing the time limit would be to increase the character's running speed, as otherwise it would eliminate the challenge for VR players. That or give us a classic-style click-to-move method of walking.

Dock -> Gear: ~8 sec
Gear -> Planetarium: ~8 sec
Planetarium -> Spaceship: ~8 sec
Spaceship -> Generator: ~9 sec
Generator -> Clock Tower puzzle solved: ~8 sec
Clock Tower puzzle solved -> Cabin -> Clock Tower: ~10 sec
Clock Tower -> Fountain: ~7 sec (do this on the way back as it is easier to click coming from the Clock Tower)
Fountain -> Dock: ~9 sec
Dock -> Fireplace open: ~11 sec
Fireplace open -> Green book: ~23 sec (depends how fast you can enter the pattern, this seems to be the only real time saving that could be made)
loading screen: ~3 sec (not sure if timer stops)
Green book -> Page hand off: ~20 sec

Add this up and you get 2:04 (or 2:01 if not counting the loading screen) :(

Given that the above does not count for the "grab the page animation" or any marker switch clicking it means the 2 mins needed for the achievement is more or less a perfect run (or there is a faster path through the switches I am missing likely involving the teleport feature).

This lines up time-wise almost exactly with my best run. I was obviously a little slower on the marker-to-marker times because I had to click the switches, but I am pretty good at doing the fireplace pattern and the clock tower puzzle quickly, which makes up for it. I still did not get the achievement.

i've been struggling with this achievement also, but finally got it today. i actually think the steam version might be bugged, because after my own experiences and reading all these posts, something isn't adding up.

here's my vid: https://streamable.com/gfdq5x

i'm playing on PC but through xbox gamepass, not steam version, and the timer appears to start from when you spawn on the dock to when you first join d'ni (not when you hand in the page as i previously thought). either it's a bug or the xbox achievement system is more forgiving than steam's is (also a possibility)? anyways hope this helps at least for those trying to visualize it.

Best run I was able to achieve so far is ~2:08. (not including load time from Myst to D'ni

Increase cursor size as was suggested in another comment.

I lock running on. As soon as I load onto dock here is my procedure

When hitting *any* switch I start moving on as SOON as I know I got a successful click. I also utilize strafing before turning to face direction when changing paths.

- Get dock switch
- Head up hugging side of stairs to gear switch
- Hug opposite site and climb to right of wooden steps up hill (near Atrus' note to catherine, you can move on right side) through grass to planetarium switch.
- move past library to rocket switch (you can hit it JUST past the guard wire on path)
- move to right of pillars surrounding fountain to generator switch
- do clock puzzle (move minute hand to left and hour hand to right. This is biggest time waster if I miss)
- While gear bridge is raising hit cabin switch (you can hug coast and move to right of trees)
- go back to clock switch (this time to left of trees, hugging coast again)
- hit fountain switch and move between pillars back towards dock
- as soon as below stairs hit dock switch
- grab page and start pressing move key as soon as page animation starts
- Once fireplace is opening in library turn around and move into it backwards so button is right in front
- memorize pattern until it's muscle memory.
- spin around and click D'ni book.
- Hand atrus page.

I saw someone else mention that if done correctly the achievement will pop up when Atrus returns from Myst. But hasn't happened for me yet. I return to myst on runs I think are close, just in case that is when it pops up.

More info on constraints would be appreciated (when exactly *should* achievement pop up? for instance)

Other than finding OPTIMAL click point for each switch and not missing a one I don't think I can get it any better... but I'll keep plugging away.

Playing on PC, not VR. anyone achieve it yet?

I have 100% done it faster than this video, so I think the steam version is bugged. I have been getting to the D'ni book in 1:53 consistently.

Judging by this video the timer ends when loading screen starts and the achievement pops when entering D'ni.

From what people are saying here it doesn't work on PC. People are doing sub 2 minutes and it still doesn't pop. Someone posted a video of a ~2m09 run from a console with a controller (!) which it's full of mistakes and slow movements and he still got it (Xbox achievement).

Just to clarify, that video was the PC Game Pass version (via the Windows 10 Xbox app) with mouse and keyboard not the console version. The Game Pass version and the Steam version are different builds of the game, but both run on PC.
LucidEpyon Aug 27, 2021 @ 2:02pm
Just gave it another shot with today's patch, still did not work.
Dreossk Aug 27, 2021 @ 2:17pm
Woops sorry about that.

I hate speedrunning but this seemed short enough so I just tried and after 3 attempts I got 1m56 and still didn't get it. Bugged!

If that's the case, it's definitely bugged, because I am quite certain I have clicked the link to D'Ni before 2 minutes was up on multiple attempts.
LucidEpyon Aug 27, 2021 @ 3:18pm
Just installed the Game Pass version and was able to get this achievement my first try (1:58 to the D'ni book). The steam version is bugged.
MrX13415 Aug 27, 2021 @ 3:18pm
I thinks it's bugged too. Just tried it multiple times and I was under 2 minutes when the loading screen to D'ni enden. I startet a timer befor I could even move.

Same. I’ve gotten through that fireplace puzzle in about half that time. It has to be a bug.

Oh I’d love to have an increase in run speed!

Yeah, Anapa, based on this video posted in the other Speedy Achievement thread, I think we’ve all done faster runs. The achievement is bugged for now and doesn’t trigger on the Steam version.

If the trigger point is warping into D’ni, as this video shows, and not clicking the page, I think the 2:00 cut is fine. I’m just going to wait for it to be addressed in one of the next updates.
