I am convinced after all this discussion that sub 2:00 is not possible if you're not using VR. I think a better solution than increasing the time limit would be to increase the character's running speed, as otherwise it would eliminate the challenge for VR players. That or give us a classic-style click-to-move method of walking.
This lines up time-wise almost exactly with my best run. I was obviously a little slower on the marker-to-marker times because I had to click the switches, but I am pretty good at doing the fireplace pattern and the clock tower puzzle quickly, which makes up for it. I still did not get the achievement.
here's my vid: https://streamable.com/gfdq5x
i'm playing on PC but through xbox gamepass, not steam version, and the timer appears to start from when you spawn on the dock to when you first join d'ni (not when you hand in the page as i previously thought). either it's a bug or the xbox achievement system is more forgiving than steam's is (also a possibility)? anyways hope this helps at least for those trying to visualize it.
Increase cursor size as was suggested in another comment.
I lock running on. As soon as I load onto dock here is my procedure
When hitting *any* switch I start moving on as SOON as I know I got a successful click. I also utilize strafing before turning to face direction when changing paths.
- Get dock switch
- Head up hugging side of stairs to gear switch
- Hug opposite site and climb to right of wooden steps up hill (near Atrus' note to catherine, you can move on right side) through grass to planetarium switch.
- move past library to rocket switch (you can hit it JUST past the guard wire on path)
- move to right of pillars surrounding fountain to generator switch
- do clock puzzle (move minute hand to left and hour hand to right. This is biggest time waster if I miss)
- While gear bridge is raising hit cabin switch (you can hug coast and move to right of trees)
- go back to clock switch (this time to left of trees, hugging coast again)
- hit fountain switch and move between pillars back towards dock
- as soon as below stairs hit dock switch
- grab page and start pressing move key as soon as page animation starts
- Once fireplace is opening in library turn around and move into it backwards so button is right in front
- memorize pattern until it's muscle memory.
- spin around and click D'ni book.
- Hand atrus page.
I saw someone else mention that if done correctly the achievement will pop up when Atrus returns from Myst. But hasn't happened for me yet. I return to myst on runs I think are close, just in case that is when it pops up.
More info on constraints would be appreciated (when exactly *should* achievement pop up? for instance)
Other than finding OPTIMAL click point for each switch and not missing a one I don't think I can get it any better... but I'll keep plugging away.
Playing on PC, not VR. anyone achieve it yet?
I have 100% done it faster than this video, so I think the steam version is bugged. I have been getting to the D'ni book in 1:53 consistently.
Judging by this video the timer ends when loading screen starts and the achievement pops when entering D'ni.
I hate speedrunning but this seemed short enough so I just tried and after 3 attempts I got 1m56 and still didn't get it. Bugged!
If that's the case, it's definitely bugged, because I am quite certain I have clicked the link to D'Ni before 2 minutes was up on multiple attempts.
Same. I’ve gotten through that fireplace puzzle in about half that time. It has to be a bug.
Oh I’d love to have an increase in run speed!
Yeah, Anapa, based on this video posted in the other Speedy Achievement thread, I think we’ve all done faster runs. The achievement is bugged for now and doesn’t trigger on the Steam version.
If the trigger point is warping into D’ni, as this video shows, and not clicking the page, I think the 2:00 cut is fine. I’m just going to wait for it to be addressed in one of the next updates.
