Habitats and Depletion
Why does harvesting crabs for research impact the habitats differently than harvesting them for sashimi? I made the mistake of trying to remove a protein harvester and lost a crab nest and am heartbroken that the crab nest repair building cannot repair the crab nest. Seriously, that is its entire job.

I would like to be able to rebuild lost crab nests. Heck if we get real creative we could probably farm crabs. I picture like a chicken coop, but on the sea floor in constant crushing pressure and oppressive darkness, like in a retail job.

Its not intuitive I will give you. Only the traps use the fish mechanic. The protein harvester and bio reactor use the habitat and not the fish. I figure design wise it is just not feasable to have you needing to devote 2 clones to every single habitat for replenishment.

If fish had a natural regen rate, then the food and energy extractors could just not eat fish fast enough to overcome said regen rate. For the cloning I'm guessing we're using the fish as raw materials to build the clones, so we need a whole bunch at once?

yes, "currently" the habitat gets destroyed when you remove the bio-generator or the food-farm. i did not yet loose a habitat over time/usage with any of them on it,
only happens when you remove it to try and build something else.. so i currently avoid building those (or removing) on anything but common habitats.
And you cant even remove dead habitats (or containers).

The bio-regenerator does not work for the bio-gen or bio-food, you can see that the "active" effect, higlighting the affected habitats, disappears as soon as the bio-gen or food-gen is built, also those habitats dont show in the building overview anymore.

I now only use the habitat regen building if at least two habitats are in range. If you are lucky with the map seed you might have 4 habitats in range.
If its only one (..and not rare..) i plant a generator or HQ-Foodfarm on it.

One of my habitats became depleted once I removed a fauna trap from it, even though it was within the radius of the replenisher. Has this happened to anyone else?

It is a UI bug, reload the game it will become a habitat.
