UV Mode

I cant see where on the central hub to activate UV mode, maybe I am just blind

Its at the bottom of the screen in the UI, a purple star looking icon. You will be able to click it just before an attack, to prevent the attack. And you will be able to turn it off again at any time its active, since it does eat 2x fuel. You wont be able to activate it on the first attack, think the game want you to see what happens if you dont have the UV lights turned on.

I've never been able to enable it. Either it never shows up in the Tech Tree, the button doesn't show up once unlocked, or stays grayed out.

The first time I don't think the button shows, but later it does.
You may need to press the button a few times, make sure you get the UV 'glow'

I see the purple UV light icon at the bottom of my UI however, I am unable to activate it.

I have unlocked the tech, I have the stored fuel, I see the icon but, it is greyed out.
I am currently under attack. =/

It worked on the third attack.

Yeah you have to be attacked for you to be able to start it up.

yeah it started working but only on the attack after I researched it - turn it on and keep it on soon as the creature is bored it will auto turn off (or mine did at least)

In all honesty I don't even think activating the UV works when you get attacked. Yes it turns on however does it even do anything to the creature that is attacking you? I haven't seen any difference between having it on and off.

If we have to click on the icon in the play area why do the instructions tell us to turn it on in the hub ? Why tell us one thing and then do another ?

It's a purple icon located in the middle bottom (once you have researched it). It can only be activated when being attacked. If you activate it late, a building may still get hit, but future attacks won't come. It will stay on for as long as you have fuel or are being attacked and will automatically turn off when the attacks are over.
