Here's a minimalist setup for a ZOMG rated tile, starting with a bionic boomer and a spike factory from city level 18.

That's not the Steam version, and it's years old. It's not comparable in the slightest. Ceramics come out on round 7-8 now. Then it was not ceramic. They do it on purpose to leech money, and it's disgusting.
Would you like more examples then? Here's some city level 25 getting all the treasure chests.

Try going with gatling, I love those dudes. I don't think I'd be able to get as far as I have without them.
Thank you for the links. The Steam version is definitely different though, it's not a simple mobile port where all things are equal. They know what they are doing, they are looking to force you into paying to get further rather than just making an honest game with a set price. $25 for the game would be fine and I'd pay it up front. Instead they say "WOW 1,300 ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ ♥♥♥♥♥♥ BLOONSTONES FOR JUST $20!" Yeah. Okay.
Can't win still? Pay and get KNOWLEDGE PACKS! Not even paying for a guaranteed level up, but paying for a CHANCE to get a SMIDGEN of a small increase of a RANDOM ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ tower.
Ninja Kiwi has honestly gone to ♥♥♥♥.
here's my run of rounds 8 and 9 of impoppable heavy forest (lots of ceramics).

edits:
round 10 had 1 MOAB. used some road spikes.
round 13 - 4x MOABs. some more road spikes. skipped moab maulers. went straight to 4/0 bloonchip under a 0/0 village
something something... eventually 2x 4/2 bloonchippers and bloon traps for economy. finished the rest with spectres.
Bloonstones are plentiful, even with just NLL bonuses. There's 3000 tiles to capture, also the events allow gaining a lot more.
As for monkey knowledge, it's 100% not required but it helps. The same guy I've linked above beat BMC flash without opening a single pack.
BMC is not a simple game, there is a lot to learn and understand. I played on Kongregate and had both cities lvl 40 and knowledge maxed having never spent any money. That being said there were players that made me look like I had just started the game.
Best part of this game is that you are able to complete all tiles using different builds/strategies.
I have only been playing on steam for a week now and I have noticed many changes and towers being nerfed you just have to adapt. So much to learn.
People play the game for 2-4 weeks and think they understand? This game is nowhere near being a P2W game. Keep plugging away and redoing the tiles till you dont lose any lives then do it again with different towers. LEARN
