There's no sharing of equipment in co-op, each person has their own that they manage - we felt that discussing what to upgrade etc. was more in the spirit than upgrades being applied to both players (not to mention that'd make co-op even easier).
With regards the being down to one life left and one person utilises the security cameras, we have plans to provide something for those players to do other than spectate - i.e. so they can meaningfully contribute. It's lower priority at the moment though because it's not something all or many players get to see frequently.
This is fixed in the latest version available now (build number 0.7.25539)
